Interviewing with Apple next week for the roles of Global Supply Manager (GSM) and Worldwide Procurement Analyst in Austin. Does anyone have any tips or advice for the interview? What kind of questions do they ask?
Also, what’s the compensation like in Austin specifically? I would think the compensation would be different than Cupertino. Anyone have any offers or salaries for these positions in Austin?

Got a random email from a supposed Amazon recruiter for a SDE position (which is not at all a fit). The email is amazon.com domain and there are no red flags in the body but it doesn't feel like an Amazon recruiter due to the tacky signature, etc. Has anyone seen this kind of cold-calling from FAANG recruiter?

Depends on the space you’re looking for. Those places you listed will be possible, but you’re probably looking at a studio or 1 bed that’s <450 sqft.
If I were you I’d expand my search to include Brooklyn, LIC, and Queens - all of which would match everything you want and only a 20-30 min subway into downtown Manhattan
[edit] also the best views within NYC are the views of Manhattan. You’ll get the best view of Manhattan from NJ/BK/Queens
Yeah, seriously check out LIC if you want a quality place with a nice view of Manhattan. I’ve lived there and currently live in the city and I prefer LIC. I also was born and raised in queens.
You can get a nice, 1 bedroom condo in a luxury building with Manhattan views in LIC, Queens for 3k. Very safe neighborhood, just across the bridge from Midtown. The same in Manhattan would probably cost you slightly more, maybe $3500-4000.
Haha good to know
I have this in Hell’s Kitchen. If you want the full experience I think this is a good option. Close to midtown and subways to get anywhere quickly. Also close to the west side park which is awesome for running along the water. I also lived in UES - great area with more happening than you think (2nd ave is fun) in terms of bars, more neighborhoody. HK is a bit more transient - people go to bars in HK and then go home elsewhere, it’s a little more busy and a destination for (proportionately more gay) bar hoppers.
There are some around UES/UWS
This is a good summary of why I was saying look into UWS. If you wanna live downtown it’s more expensive, louder, more chaotic. It’s perfect if you are in your 20s. UWS is much better if you are over say 33.
Going to be tough on that budget. Keep an open mind for Brooklyn, the neighborhoods along the F are super nice and only 15 minutes to Manhattan. Williamsburg is also basically Manhattan-lite also.
Rising Star
if you want to be close to FiDi with views then Downtown Brooklyn / Dumbo
1br with no roaches is difficult. 2br OTOH…
Haha why do you say that? I don't get why that would be like that?

Check out exchange place, Hoboken and Newport areas in Jersey City. All are 5-8 mins train to downtown and 10-15mins to Midtown. Most will get you a 800+ sq ft 1bed in $2k-$3K range. City views by the waterfront are gorgeous. Convenient options if you work in Manhattan. Trains 5-10 mins spaced, 20-30mins post midnight
All the neighborhoods mentioned are possible. I live in Williamsburg and I love it, have decent views of the east side. You can do similar in jersey city, and avoid NYC taxes. Good value for what you get (for NYC), and your budget would work. East Village/LES you can get lucky in a down part of the rental cycle (Q4 - feb lease date), but roaches are also likely and there aren’t really views
Depends what kind of person you are, each neighborhood has a different flavor. If you want “the action” and the experience of NYC all the time, then you want Manhattan but will need to sacrifice on quality. I find that Williamsburg gives the best balance of both though
I thought you'd pay NYC taxes even if you lived if NJ!
Yeah I agree with everything you said, that's why I was more inclined to Manhattan. Thanks for sharing
Is $3k considered a low budget to have for a 1 bedroom?
I think that for Manhattan is low-mid? Most decent 1bedroom I see in Manhattan are +3500.
3000 is already a big part of my income
Jersey city
If I knew I was going to be a longer time, I would think about it, but given it will likely be 2 years only I don't think Jersey is for me this time.
Battery park! I lived in gateway plaza - it was fantastic
These are all very good insights. I will do some research on Brooklyn, I'm surprised you all like it this much. Thank you!!
