My bosses wife has taken over the books for our firm. She recently informed me that she had been looking at our 401k plan and commented on the amount I have in my 401k. I understand that she is in charge of adding our contributions and the firms matching amount. But is it legal for her to be looking at how much we have?

If she’s doing the books, she kinda has to see it. It’s weird for her to be commenting it though.

Not sure that it presents a legal issue. It is incredibly odd to comment on it that I am sure of. Anything of that nature that I’d consider sensitive is something you look at for whatever necessary reason, and then forget about it. Especially coming in as the boss's wife, I’d be very mindful of crossing boundaries.

I would definitely say it is odd. But I don’t believe it’s illegal.
I feel you should try and bring up your concerns with this to avoid unnecessary trouble :)

That is odd. Is she implying they are contributing too much because you have a lot in yours? What is she implying. Be mindful of the waters you're treading on, it is a touchy situation. I'm curious as to why she even said something like that. Maybe somehow, ask what she meant by her statement.

Given this and markets I was hoping for ~50L (considering 30+8)? Any suggestions. Also they are in an urgent requirement for the role to be filled. I need suggestions on this number. Thanks in advance

What is the average paralegal salary in NC for a commercial real estate law office? I’ve been with a great firm for the last 9 years but am starting to wonder if I’m being compensated fairly. The company is about 30 employees (mostly attorneys) but I work primary for 4 of the attorneys.

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. I was going to leave the legal field all together because I was so burned out and depressed, but I decided to give the field one more chance if I was able to go in-house. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.

Hi everyone. Is it typical for the attorney to take credit for the work a paralegal does? An example: I gave some ideas about deposition questions and some observations I made (I was asked about giving suggestions) regarding a witness and the attorney mentioned that he’s the one that had these great questions/observations. Zero credit or thank you for the work I did.

Paralegals: My firm is looking for a paralegal, and I see the job posting advertising the salary as $65-$75k, with benefits. Is this a good salary for a paralegal (Greater LA area)? I’m not the decision maker, but it’s been a few weeks with very few applicants. I’m curious if there’s something hurting the firm in its search.

For those of you who made the switch to in house/corporate law, what was your experience like? Did you have to take a lower position to gain the experience or were you able to argue that your soft skills were transferable to in house? I’ve been in litigation for 15 years and I’m looking to make the switch. Ultimately, I’d like to get into Legal Ops, but feel getting some in house experience first would be beneficial.
