My company posted a position that I am very interested but that will mean I move from a legal role to a compliance role. Not sure if that is good or bad in long term. But I am wondering does internal candidate have any advantage? People often say internal applicants are just formalities, other times they win by default. how much of an edge do internal candidates actually have?

Honestly, that might be a great idea for long-term. You do somewhat have an advantage because people already know you there. It depends on who you know.

I have an offer for $130k for a senior attorney position in a boutique L&E firm. Also have a recruiter who thinks she can get me into another for $150-170k. Both are more than I’ve ever made (Denver, 17 yrs of experience but completely different practice areas). Any tips for countering the $130k offer for more using the other potential offer while not risking a complete withdrawal of the current offer? I’ve never been in a position to bargain my starting salary so this is all very new to me.
