My judge works from 8 to 8, and expects the clerks to do the same (not only when we are busy, but every single day). And he never works from home. Are most judges like this? He has reached a point where no one can tell him what to do, and yet he still works like crazy.

Most judges are not like this but it’s not uncommon either

Very common in busy districts.

Judges are often workaholics who treat clerks like indentured servants. I suggest coming up with a subtle project to do when you’re stuck there doing nothing that will keep you from feeling like you are wasting time.

like

Definitely not most. My COA judge rarely worked past 5:30, and I can only remember two days where I worked past 6pm. District court might be busier though. This is the kind of stuff you research before you accept a clerkship.

This is my judges schedule but not expectations for clerks. We don’t have any flexibility for remote work and are in 8:30 - 6 every day. And that is considered the least flexible / most hours of any judge in the building

From my knowledge, most judges are not like this. But so judges do operate their chambers like this (I don't understand why especially for an A3 judge). But good thing is it's only for a year

Yeah my judge whose schedule isn’t far off from this said something to the effect of since they only have us term clerks for a year, they expect long hours and only in person

Not my experience, but I’m also not in a busy district.

Not in my experience either. My judge works ~9:30 to 7 and the clerks work ~9 to 6 (unless particularly busy). He’s also very nice and says we don’t need to start before him or leave after, just get our work done

An agency I freelance for wants to hire me full-time. They told me for a Sr Copywriter, 100-110k. I countered with 125-150.

I also said I'm interested in a higher-level title - I currently freelance as a Creative Director of Copy elsewhere (they don't have that title at this agency.)

They came back and said yes to the title and to 125, with a 6 month review that could raise it to 145.

Which is good for Sr Copy, but low for CD/ACD level. Don't want to screw myself over. What to say now?

Hello everyone! I am a Judicial Law Clerk, which I have been for a little over two years now. However, I’m planning on moving into the AML/Compliance realm. I have a background in finance, having been a Finance Disbursing Officer in the Army for 6 years with one deployment in that role. Additionally, I am currently a JAG attorney and studying for my CAMS, hoping to take that exam in the next month or two. Any advice or referrals for anyone I can talk to learn more about the field? Thanks! :)

Ive been practicing in TX for 2-3 years at a big law firm doing mostly bankruptcy work (and some trial) and looking to clerk at a bankruptcy court in SDNY/DDE/EDVA (I am well aware of how great the SDTX judges are but I am set on leaving Texas). Anyone familiar with how many apps these judges normally get or what makes candidates stand out? Are these judges generally not interested in someone who has practiced in a different market?

I’ve been at my clerkship for 5 years (4 with a different judge) and one with my current judge, and I heard horrible things about him before starting, but I assumed they were exaggerated. Turns out they’re all true, and I’ve had to start therapy to deal with him and the incredibly toxic environment. I’m trying to get out ASAP b/c he also has a history of firing clerks without cause or notice, but I think I’ll only be able to give two weeks notice if i get the job I’m interviewing for. Thoughts?

I went to a T14 law school, got great grades and glowing recommendations, and wrote (what I thought was) a great writing sample. But I got rejected from all 70 federal clerkships I applied to. The only thing I can think of is: I took a non traditional route after law school and did a 2 year public interest fellowship in a niche field of administrative law. The rejection gave me a lot of self hatred. I still really want to clerk. Any advice? What is wrong with me? I feel like a failure.

Need advice on a specific question!
Interviewed with Chicago court 2 weeks ago; they decide mid-August. Interviewed with DC judge last week; hear from him by this Friday. Chicago said if I need an answer before August, they'd try to make a decision about me sooner.
Should I ask Chicago for an answer? Or should I wait until there's an offer from DC judge? Maybe seems better to withdraw before an offer is made rather than ask for time to think about it/turn down DC? What's proper etiquette?
