It’s true if you’re getting paid 80K a year for 40hr weeks and you end up working 90hr weeks, you just diluted your salary in half.
It enrages me that we can be classified as non-exempt by employers that use time sheets that require us to work a minimum 40 hour week.
Freelance.
I wonder...clients are being billed for our extra hours anyway... why these hours go to the employer pocket and we don’t have even a share?
The industry would collapse if we were all paid the hours we actually work. That would be worth seeing though. Imagine a world without ad agencies.
Seriously!!!! We are getting rid of timesheets, which is sort of great, but at the same time: who you gonna call when you are working 100 hour weeks?
It would be nice if pay had some correlation to hours billed, and the price they’re billed at... does anyone do that?
Even though probably unrealistic, OP has a point. My boss thinks the average number of yearly hours works out to about 11 per day. most client contracts are based on no more than 8.5 (1900 per year) per day How long can a business survive that needs to make everyone into a workaholic in order to make money?
Do you work at We Are Unlimited?
Droga5 1: It does. To the agency’s pay. The difference is their leverage.
Yes, what happened to getting paid overtime/hourly for those who make under 50k? I thought that was supposed to be a thing.
As far as I know, most agencies have been bumping up to 50k anyone under 50k and exempt who would have made more than 50k with overtime pay, in order to classify them as non-exempt and save any costs over 50k. But agency creatives were already classified as non-exempt, or were supposed to be, because of our roles.
