Aw great…. When are you leaving?

like

Just because it’s one of the best cities in the country, that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement. Otherwise, people wouldn’t be leaving in droves. Housing, crime, homelessness, sanitation, infestation of rats and cockroaches, subways, and traffic are some issues to start. Folks are so defensive and quick to say “just leave” while completely ignoring the issues they too are dealing with on a regular basis. Let’s be realistic here…

like

10000% agree. I think we’re on the same team. Those were terrible policies that made no one safer.

But I know the city can do better on crime than it is right now. Im willingly paying a lot of taxes so my elected officially have higher salaries - I expect my mayor, my DA, the NYPD and the heads of departments to steppppp up.

Ehh New York will be fine. It is and always be the best city in the US

like

Just leave then? Plenty of people are still moving here and enjoy living in the city. It’s hard to find another city with as good of a job market in as attractive of a city

Don't let the door hit you where the good lord split you.

like

Yea, a bunch of retired up-staters moving for warmer weather will doom the city. Oh and the few finance bros whose firm is moving to Miami.

Maybe time for you to move out if you dont like it here OP?

like

Florida and Texas aren’t even low cost of living lol. And wages in both states, especially Florida, are low even with cost of living considered.

like

Without international immigration, NYC would have a declining population just like the state.

I understand the instinct to defend NYC, but the housing crisis has gotten to ludicrous levels.

I dont blame anyone for bailing. Especially people with kids.

like

People with kids should leave, and take their annoying kids with them

I tried it, moved from NYC to Texas. Moved back within 2 years. People are... less sophisticated down there, it gets mind numbing after a while and I wouldn't trust the public school system down there with my kids (even in the nice towns tbh).

like

Which is ridiculous because every borough outside of Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn has a worse quality of life and standard of living than the rest of Texas

funny

It's the housing costs. Blue states are nimbying themselves to death.

likesmart

I'm considering leaving because of that. I can get better quality housing stock in mid tier cities.

lol. People can't afford housing.

like

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out

like

With a 20 billion budget deficit, please dont go begging and hope that the Feds will bail NY out again as in 2020.

Instead of building more homes, you have NIMBYISM and rent control. Some of yall need an economics class. You get the government you deserve.

I always love seeing the copium in the replies to these posts. ‘Go to Florida you bum lolol’ guaranteed to rack up the likes instead of people actually acknowledging the very real problems facing the middle/lower class and what can be done about it. Good riddance

like

Ppl on Fishbowl don't trend towards the "how can we take care of the problems of the lower/middle class", it seems most ppl are on here to feel better about how they don't have those problems

Go kick rocks

like

hmmm but 200,000 is not even a lot compared to total State population

like

NY lost so many folks that it lost a House seat when the census was undertaken in 2020. All indications are that NY will lose (definitely) 1 or maybe 2 next time around.

Also good luck funding reparations for slavery. Looks like the state has the right priorities 😂😂

Higher living costs and lower wages. Those of us in the middle working class were squeezed out and forced to find homes they could actually afford. This wealth migration is out of hand. Soon the rich will put up walls to keep the working class from accessing the expensive cities they were squeezed out from.

like

Awesome maybe rents will finally come down….

like

200k is a drop in the bucket with how much housing we really need.

Hiya! I was wondering if anyone here has any good recommendations in terms of books or learning material that I can pick up to learn about sales and marketing relevant to the consulting industry?

Currently a paralegal at a small start up financial services company been there for just a little over a year. I wear “multiple hats” but more recently I’ve done a lot of PM work and some BA work. My position title is changing soon but I’m wondering how helpful that would be for wanting to go into PM work at a tech company. Anyone have any career pivot advice? (Also I’m only 1.5yrs old in my career so I’m definitely still new, and I have previous experience as a project assistant).

Hi everyone. Is it typical for the attorney to take credit for the work a paralegal does? An example: I gave some ideas about deposition questions and some observations I made (I was asked about giving suggestions) regarding a witness and the attorney mentioned that he’s the one that had these great questions/observations. Zero credit or thank you for the work I did.

I work as a Business Development Manager at a sports club.. I’ve been given a couple of months “trial” in the 6 figure and above sales in which I don’t see going back to my other role on lower sales. This was a somewhat good move for me until I consider missing out on commission each month that was more than my salary. (£25k salary, over £2k per month commission)
How do I go about raising this concern? I believe I should be paid more now and at least change my job title?

Nightmare scenario and need your help. I moved into a new place in august knowing I was going to be WFH. Quiet, lots of light.

They just started construction right next to my building with all day noise, including a bull dozer and heavy machinery coming within 6 feet of my window. We’re also on the second floor so I mean RIGHT NEXT TO MY WINDOW.

I also have a bunch of men starting at me all day on too of the noise triggering my migraines. What can I do?
