Does anyone here work for Silicon Valley Bank? They recently acquired Boston Private. I’m a candidate for a job at Boston Private. Wondering if SVB is planning layoffs in the near term at BP? Also, does anyone know the anticipated benefits to be rolled out from SVB as the parent company? Specifically interested in health insurance providers. Thanks in advance for any information! Why 20 years do you and 30 for him?
I was thinking 20 for me because it would cover through my kids graduating and my husband is the bread winner and he would be fine financially without me at that point. 30 for my husband since I would need his salary to pay for our kids schooling.
Same age, purchased 30 year term - it was about $600/yr for $1M coverage, i used policygenius to get quotes
My husband has a life insurance certificate and he can give consultation for free. He is affiliated with many big insurance companies and get reasonable quote based on your life and health situation. He is a booth mba in finance and has helped many people with their insurance solution.
When we were late 30's, we got 15 year term. It'll expire about the time our youngest graduates high school. We only got $250K each. We'd also each get about $250K from our employers. Certainly won't be a windfall if one of us goes, but should be enough to get by. We both have good jobs and make about the same amount. We don't have a big mortgage, so would be more than enough to pay off the house, buy a new car (when needed), and finish paying the kids' catholic schooling through high school. And then the remaining spouse's own income would be enough for monthly expenses. Mine is only $16/month and husband's is $33/month. If we both died, there would be over $1M between the two of us for our kids.
That really is a good way to look at it. I definitely want a safety net too and not a jackpot.
I did the length of time needed to get through high school for our youngest. I got a high number though. I wanted either surviving spouse to be able to take a year sabbatical and also the ability to move to uncomplicate life. I would move to a home easier to care for, and my husband would move states away to be near his sisters for our girls.
