AI is an artificial intelligence. It should not be used to evaluate human beings or behaviors. It can’t grade subjectively. Be careful what you wish for. 🤦🏽
Rising Star
Not grading, but I have used it for lesson plans since that mess is only for admin anyway and is a giant time waster. It takes me less time to send an email to parents that I write myself than to log into a program, give the parameters, get the response, proofread, and then email it out.
If you don’t want to grade, don’t complain when kids don’t want to do the work you assign.
The state of Texas graded the writing samples on the standardized test with AI this year. I think if that is the standard they want to set, there is no more hope for help from the government. Writing is an art and you can’t standardize that!
I don't think there's anything wrong with using AI. It's called working smarter!!
Can I be honest? I would absolutely love to use AI to do some of the things I hate doing so that I can spend more time with my kids. There are so many mundane things like lesson plans that I would really prefer not to do. I think using AI would be smart because it frees up your time for more important things i.e. the kids.
Our math department has been using computer grading for years. It’s not AI based exactly. We program activities that can take student answers and splice them into numbers that algorithms can check or shift them onto graphs where statistical models can check answers. But it gives immediate feedback that helps students.
I do have my honors students blog about various math topics in the real world. Those I would be leery of AI grading because my rubric looks for things the AI doesn’t usually produce. I don’t mind if students use AI to help write the post, but I want them involved and thinking during the process. I would have to learn more about AI grading capabilities to go down that route.
