In my opinion, industry and niche matter. Also marketability and how the candidates present themselves during interviews. Sometimes technical skills does not necessarily mean you will make more if you do not know how to advocate for yourself.
100% agree and I would say that initial increase will level out over the years in different ways, from bonuses to base increases.
Pro
You end up in the right place if you stay long enough. You will sometimes see decently large discrepancies at senior and manager, but they ultimately even out as you get into the SM rank.
It all depends on the size of the company, experience, etc.
It could be the difference between a large company vs a small one.
If they like you ... big raises yeah. If they dont minimal raises.
