Opinion on CPA firms using fictitious names vs. an owner/person’s name?

A name that highlights your niche is fine. At first I thought you were taking about using fake last names.

That’s what I thought too

Use real name for your own firm. Shows skin in the game.

It is not an ethics violation as long as it not misleading. For example there is a firm named The Designer CPA that specializes in serving the design industry niche. As long as your state board signs off as not misleading these types of fictitious names are permissible.

I’m curious to hear thoughts. It just seems so boring to just hang out a shingle John Doe, CPA

I think whatever name you choose is fine, subject to the blessing of the state board. After all, CPA firms are businesses just like any other company. A good name speaks for itself. Some generic John Smith, CPA just shows boredom.

I will start a firm called “ fake cpa firm” then
