Reassurances that layoffs are over is a first step. Financial incentives are a second. Even if you trust your primary team and your primary leaders, if you don’t trust the leadership of the firm that can force their hands into decisions, it’s going to be difficult. There will have to be a lot of messages and incentives from top leadership to fix that.
Thanks for your insight. I wish I could reassure that layoffs are over, but with the current administration I don’t think anyone could. I have a small amount of influence but I’m not a senior leader decision maker. I guess I was hoping for ideas in the current environment
1. Repetitive Reassurance from you as well as your skip should come in
2. Better bonuses and hikes
3. Make the work culture more positive through transparency, shared accountability and periodic rewards
4. Boost up learning morale in the team by trying to reimburse relevant certifications and other value add upskilling
5. Encourage people to take some breaks to cool off so that they don’t fall into a burnout trap and get more reasons to quit
With regard to the last question, I do breathe a sigh of relief if upper leadership says they are not planning any re-organizations or layoffs. Of course, the question is for how long lol. But where I work, they have proved trustworthy with those types of announcements. That’s why they are so rare too. I don’t take this to mean there will never be another layoff, but I take this to mean there will not be significant and deep cuts in the near future.
How many of you have gone through layoffs whether you were affected directly or not, only to have the company come back out and say layoffs are over when they weren’t? I can tell you even though I hear the words “for now“ that still doesn’t mean transparency. We all know that business is business, but the first place that businesses look to save money is payroll they don’t look anywhere else. They don’t even look at themselves. The first place they look is everywhere else to cut jobs making work on teams harder because they’re down positions that need to be filled. And they won’t be backfilled. Please chime in and say whether that was your experience or not.
After layoffs, employee who are still working with organisation works in fear. And slowly start searching and move out of organisation expect few.
