Owning a business or being part of a startup can be scary and stressful and oh so serious. Does anyone have a funny or lighthearted story to lighten the mood of the bowl?

In our early days, our website went live with placeholder text still on the homepage “Insert inspiring tagline here.” A customer screenshotted it and tweeted, “Relatable" lol. It went viral, and at first we were panicking but then we leaned into it and now it is our tagline haha!

Made me chuckle

I can honestly say that the biggest joy for me is seeing how an idea I came up with brings so much light and laughter and smiles to just about anyone who visits our shop. We try really hard to get those five star reviews and getting to know our customers and their preferences and seeing how many have become repeat customers warms my heart and soul.

like

My son will randomly check in with me to let me know I still have all 5 star reviews. I think it’s so sweet that he follows my business online even though he’s not super into the services I provide.

Oh, I’ve got one! As a mom of three juggling remote work and a side hustle, I once showed up to a Zoom pitch with a unicorn sticker on my forehead, courtesy of my toddler. No one said a word until the end when the investor said, “Best branding I’ve seen all week.” We landed the deal anyway. Got any stories where chaos worked in your favor?

like

I love this. It humanizes the process and makes you relatable! Glad they had a sense of humor about it.!

Never been an issue for me, I have always been careful of my cofounders and it depends if they are fun to be around during chaotic time or not

the joy is to see our products are really liked by our clients despite the sweat and tears. what industry u in?

Do you get the impression many people do them? If so, soft drugs (ex - weed)? Hard drugs? Non-prescribed study drugs? Frequency? At work-sponsored social functions? To an extent that it’s noticeable/problematic?

I'd settle for insurance work if theres good WLB & $$$ lol

I have a business idea in the VR/AR space utilizing AI. However, I lack skill sets to evaluate viability or to create an MVP. Neither do I have a network to tap into.

Does this approach make sense or do you recommend other approaches? If it makes sense, do you have any recommendations for classes or communities?

Friends, need some feedback on an idea:

I’m thinking of starting a podcast interviewing leaders at startups about their experience with specific challenges - I know, cliche, get a more original hobby, etc.

Not looking for the narrative arc of How I Built This or Masters of Scale. Instead, looking to uncover specific problems faced by companies that tried something new for the first time. What did they not see coming, how did they adapt and measure, etc.

What are your thoughts on this format?

I have started a side hustle with two friends. It's Climate Tech related. We have been working with it for the past year as a part-time hustle. We want to take it to the next stage.

My two other friends have a background in consultancy and one of them had a mentor who is really high up at a Big4. He would like to join the start up as a Partner. He seems really experienced and could help raising money, although he does not seem to care about climate change.

What would be a good offer?

I started a company just under 1 year ago. We sell a product via ecom channels and have done ~100K in revenue with a 60% gross margin.

The first 6 months I was working a full time job. I quit my job to focus on the business full time, and have since depleted my readily available capital. I’m bootstrapping the business with my own funds. I was recently offered a job in my old industry for 80K per year. I was previously making 62K.

Should I take the job?

Any good recommended books on how to build a scalable product and team? I'm looking for recommendations for two areas: 1) in general laying the groundwork in a startup to have the tools and especially processes in place to scale, and 2) tactical focus on building a SaaS project.
