I am not 50 yet but I made Manager at Deloitte in 2005. As a Senior Consultant, I was leading small engagement teams and very active in internal initiatives. I also presented in multiple conferences and built a strong brand for myself in the firm. I also helped quite a bit with campus recruiting. All these things made me a manager.
Ah this makes sense. Comparable experience/role would be over 150 base at PwC. TC is pushing 200k
52 here. Started in 1991 as staff, making $28,500. Back in those days the levels were Staff, Senior, Manager, Partner and it took about 10-12 years. As a new Manager I think I was at about $75K because I remember thinking I would make 6 figures soon, the “I made it” club at the time.
2000 made $95k plus bonus

Thanks for sharing, everyone! I’m talking to someone in leadership about comp in a couple weeks and thinking about bringing up relative salaries considering inflation over time as one of my points. I don’t know that I’m super historically underpaid, but I think sometimes leaderships forgets that $1 back in 2000 is equivalent to $1.55 now. So if managers were making $100k back then, you’d need to make $155k now just to keep up with inflation
@p1, Were the increases the same across the board (i.e. MC, TC, non-MBA etc all got roughly same % increase)? The lowest M1 salary on current grid is 124k (non-MBA MC LCOL). Interested what the new M1 will be this year.
Made manager at KPMG in 2000 at 90k. Hired as a staff with 10 years experience in industry at 60k.
Rising Star
1998 - $100k in ATL.
In 2010, I made it to manager and had a base comp of just under $153k. Admittedly I am still a few years shy of 50 but adding the data in case it’s helpful.
100k in 2000.
I was hired at manager
Made manager in 1995 at Andersen Consulting with salary of $70k.
Manager at Big 4 firm in 1995 at 65k
