In certain cases, yes it’s very valuable. It’s not that hard either. Just drag and drop what you want to where you want it to be. I am probably oversimplifying but it shouldn’t take as long as some of the harder things to get up to speed on it
Takes 15 minutes of learning and hopefully up to 15 practice tries at learning to get the hang of it.
I am an evangelist, lol. If you want to, email me at alternate.email96@yahoo.com and I’ll give you a 15 min lesson.
Absolutely, especially if you want quick summarizations and insights into your data. Also, you can make them interactive and user friendly with slicers
Yes, they’re worth learning!!
I actually found it easier to learn them working with bigger data sets than some of the small examples you’ll see on YouTube or such. Play around with a larger data set that you’re familiar with! they can be incredibly useful!
I always thought they were intimidating but it’s not as bad. The excel help function helped too ….but As a general rule, I put whatever I'm trying to 'bucket' in the lower left hand box (drag/drop from the fields above) and the item I'm 'counting' in the lower right-hand box. Depending on what you're doing, that may or may not make sense for your situation.
Yes! Just play around with them. I'll bet you learn to love them.
Definitely are. And not that hard either. Think "database", with multiple entries which pivot table can help summarize
Yes. Just understand the logic its simple
Yes, 100% worth learning
Yes definitely
My manager insists we build out our models with heavy reliance on pivot tables
It's a nightmare
Yes! Pivot tables are easy to learn and a quick way to organize data to present.
I suggest you practice with a simple data set to help it make sense. For example make up a list of 100 people names and random attributes like date of birth, home state, team they play for, annual earnings, and points earned.
creating a pivot table containing all that data in a new sheet and drag and drop fields around. You’ll see how you can do things like group people by team and get total earnings by team; or average points by birth year, etc.
Once you do this with a set of familiar data you’ll get the hang of it.
They are worth it, they could be the basis of any dashboard you create. With few YouTube videos and a little messing up with a sample data set you can learn it easily.
Depending on your personality and learning style, it might help to start by learning how to create your own “pivot tables” by using formulas like COUNTIFS, SUMIFS, etc. then once you have a solid understanding of the underlying concepts, using the pivot table interface might make more sense.
Yes definitely! Once you learn how they function, they won’t be a struggle anymore
The PivotTable allows you to quickly manipulate data so that you do an analysis.
It’s actually super easy I promise, excel practically does all of it for you
