$130 for the unmotivated pool guy, probably $20 to heat it with gas, probably $50 or so in water. Figure $300 for filter cleaning every other month. We live in SoCal and don’t have a very big pool.
What kind of boujee ass pool guys are you guys hiring? Do they have gold vacuums?! I pay a guy $80/month in FL to handle all my pool maintenance
Running the pump has a non trivial effect on your electricity bill too

Well you can always sit in the pool if the fires in Cal gets too close. Move to Tahoe or Anywhere there is a lake. It does not require running a pump, analysing the chemicals or trying for hours to get the darn green stuff blue again
Which country? City? Etc.
Depends on a number of factors (1) age/condition of infrastructure, (2) age/condition of mechanics and technology, (3) how many months pool is in use vs. maintain, and (4) whether you maintain versus a service.
Constant work and it is a pain for the few days of use. spa/ hot tub better and more manageable. Not even takjng $ in consideration
I have a vinyl liner pool and spend about $400 to open it and $300 to close it for the winter but you won't have to do that in SoCal. I spend about $300-$400 per season on chemicals and have my kids clean it periodically. I take a water sample to the pool store every couple of weeks and they tell me what chemicals I need to add. I leave my filter pump running 24 hours a day and backwash the filter every 2-4 weeks. I also have an automatic cover and the pool is covered most of the time so that helps a lot. If you hire it all out obviously you will pay more. I think gunite and plaster require more cleaning than vinyl.
Just don’t. It ain’t worth it. I spend way more time cleaning it than swimming
USA / California
$300 per month in operating maintenance + $200-300 per month for long term maintenance and renovations (E.g. replace pump, repair pool lights, eventual leaks in pump line, resurface)
Our pool is 10 years old - infrastructure still good, but mechanical and plumbing deteriorating. We use our pool April through October, and maintain on our own. It’s approximately $1000-1500 per summer in equipment fixes, and then $150-200 on chemicals in the on months. Oh and the electricity to run all this shit ... significant in TX
Had a pool in Illinois, 800 to open, 500 to close, 500/month to clean April - October. Did not pay to heat it. It was nice. I didn’t mind, but sold the house. Now in a condo. Nice not to worry about it.
My wife tells me it was 125 every two weeks to clean. So I was high on my estimate.
Damn this is so expensive. I used to be so jealous of my friends with pools when I was a kid.. Now I understand why my parents always said no to having one.
I pay 80 a month for a diving pool cleaning only. No chemicals included. Hot tubs will jump your price
$100-$140 a month to pay someone to clean. Age of pump and plaster is huge. If pump is new (2-3 years old), electricity will be low $20-$40/ month. Plaster needs to be replaced every 15-20 years and is $5k to do it You can do the month based on the pool you are looking at
Make sure you have enough insurance. Get an umbrella policy which will add coverage and cost between $200 to $300 annually
P5, good point. Running the pump continuously may cost $40-$50 per month. But seems to cut down on cleaning and chemicals.
