Even if it weren’t a tough situation on your engagement, you shouldn’t be putin this position. You need to grow your network and benefit from the guidance of several people playing those roles for you, instead of just the one.
Honestly I’m not too comfortable with counselors managing their counselees on an engagement in any circumstance. It sets up a situation in which the counselee is judged at a more micro level than everyone else, given the fact that feedback is less important because the counselor has the knowledge of day-to-day activities.
I recommend cultivating a personal board of directors, partners/SMs and managers that can be unofficial career advisors for you. Also, switch counselors if you can.
