Below $3k in Houston is very easy, just depends on what type of environment you're looking for. I usually recommend The Heights
Rising Star
Heights or Montrose (Austin vibe kinda) are the best places to be. Maybe Midtown if you're early 20s. It'll be hard to find anything over $3K in any of those areas unless you want a 2BR to yourself.
Rising Star
Heights
Heights if you’re single. Garden Oaks/Oak Forest if not. Spring Branch/Memorial if you have a family. River Oaks/West U if you’re loaded
you can find a place in any neighborhood of the 610 loop under 3000. I have a single bedroom 700sf for 1195 on Waugh. I think it's a good deal compared to other stuff out there at the time.
you need to give us your age and what major highway loop your job is in. If I could do my move over again, I would not settle for any job that's not in the downtown area, so I can be a member of tunnel colony during the business week and ride my bike to work. I live in Montrose. id recommend heights, Montrose, Midtown, eado.
I unfortunately have to work in the Suburban Industrial Complex aka the yuppy-hell Woodlands. but, some people's brains don't work correctly, maybe they drank too much chemical spill water, and they prefer a place full of fake buildings and hellish traffic like the Woodlands. the woodlands are for Texans who wish they lived in Irvine, CA.
no matter what you do, you must drive to the address you want to live. fucking up on location will devastate your ability to have a life and thrive.
Heights or montrose are the place to be
Heights, Montrose or Rice Military - nothing else. Don’t waste your time looking at galleria, greenway plaza, midtown or downtown (our downtown is for work and nothing else)
What area of town are you going to be working? What kind of atmosphere/vibe are you looking for? Traffic patterns can be an absolute PITA so I always recommend not being too far out from your office, or at least have a couple ways to get there fairly easily, if you have to go there regularly.
Hermann Square, so downtown (near City Hall)? If so, the Heights is a good spot (though I’m loathe to add traffic to my neighborhood, I realize the secret is out) and the commute will be pretty easy. Lots of walkable spots (coffeehouses, restaurants, bars, shopping depending on exactly where), bike trail, and generally safe (petty crime exists everywhere, it’s a big city).
Agree with asking about location where working …

Thank you for this!!
Montrose hands down
Thank you for this! Would Sugarland or Katy be considered too far?
I would not want to commute from Sugarland or Katy to downtown, even if it’s “only” twice a week. Plenty of people do it, but unless you really want to live in the suburbs for a specific reason (kids, schools, etc.), I don’t know why you’d put yourself out there.
