It’s really hard to aim for an exact retrieval date. The schedule changed based on how your body reacts and the retrieval date could change up until the last minute. At my clinic, aligning with a specific doctor’s schedule wasn’t even an option. I have a main doctor but I saw whomever was on duty for my ultrasounds and for my retrievals. The rotations for the ultrasounds allowed me to meet several of the doctors and that helped me be confident in the team overall ahead of retrieval day.

Same as PMM. Unless there’s a prevailing reason otherwise where you’re not confident of the other doc’s skills, it’s normal. I wouldn’t try to work your biological cycle around a doctor’s schedule. Keep in mind you’re not going to be awake during the surgery anyway
Let’s consider it as practice… odds are your main OB won’t be the one on duty the day you deliver at the end anyway!
Agree with the other comments here but wanted to add that if you’re going through with fertility treatment and ttc, you’re going to need to get more comfortable with not being able to control the situation and/or outcome. So much of this is a crap shoot. You can do everything ‘right’ and still not get the desired result.
Every single one of my procedures over the 6ish years I’ve been on my fertility journey have been with on-call doctors, not my actual fertility doctor. I’m not sure where you are, but this has been the normal practice for my fertility clinic (Shady Grove Fertility).
My doctor will call me with the results or any change in recommendation, but when I’m there for a procedure, it’s whoever is on duty.
And I say 6ish years, but that’s including a successful pregnancy and currently pregnant after my last FET, so I haven’t noticed any adverse affects from seeing different doctors.
I had 2 different doctors I would see in the office based on availability. During the medication process I talked to the nurse and ultrasound tech more than anyone. My first doctor did the retrieval, the other one did the transfer, actually an Attendee did it with the more experienced doctor in the room.
No issues i have a 2 year old now.
My clinic I saw probably 4 different doctors throughout my IVF journeys. Morre research is showing when possible to avoid additional drugs and try more natural or natural modified cycles. My plan was created by my doctor and my appointments with the others they followed his plan and always reviewed with him first if they wanted to make any adjustments. In terms of retrieval any well trained IVF specialist can do it you should be in good hands.
My egg transfer was done by my doctor and that was really nice since I really trusted him and it ended up successful, but I would have accepted anyone that was available that day.
Yes, my retrieval was done by a different doctor since mine wasn't available (scheduled absence.) Retrieval went excellent! No complaints at all.
