PwC Senior Manager (experienced manager), promoted fast to SM but now looking to get an MBA. Will get Director soon but with US immigration being a nightmare as an Indian born, looking to get an MBA. Have an acceptance from LBS in UK and looking to break into MBB in Enterprise Strategy. However, PwC can just move me to UK based on immigration concerns. Should I go for an MBA regardless?

OP - you probably have to prioritize one or the other for this near term decision - US immigration or breaking into MBB. If US immigration is priority, going to PwC in UK for a year and coming back on L1 will be easiest to cut short path to GC. However, if you’re looking to break into MBB and just generally move on from US, an MBA will definitely help set up base in UK.

If you wanna get to MBB, that's the most well paved path. LBS MBA is really of no use wrt. US immigration Tho

How many yoe? MBAs become tricky, not all are equal

If making partner in PWC is enough of a goal - you can totally skip the MBA and just take the promotions .

Why do you want to go to MBB - I left BCG to come to alix (I like restructuring) and it kind of opened my eyes to how many awesome people there are in non MBB.

If you are doing well in PWC and enjoy your work - don't change that. Why did something that isn't broken.

An MBA for you doesn't make sense, move to the UK with strategy& and then reevaluate.

Want to add some context to the post. I am aligned to Tech consulting in PwC and don’t think I want to be in Tech consulting long-term

A good way to think about things complex is to simplify.

1. Transition from tech consulting to whatever
2. Get immigration resolved

Etc...

And for each of those goals think about pros on cons in isolation (not more than 5 for each) for deciding.

Once you have that down it will be clear. Maybe your objectives require a compromise and you need to prioritize. Maybe they support each other etc... once you are clear on your goals and the optimal paths to achieve them the final decision becomes easier.

This post is a little confusing. OP, 1) where are you based now? 2) why not consider lateral move to strategy consulting, 3) are you okay to take pay cut / much junior role after MBA graduation? (and the possibility you may not land at MBB?)

not super familiar with UK immigration policy and LBS strength, but common sense tells me the UK MBA maybe your worst option due to 1) uncertainty on post-MBA offering, and 2) just a different immigration issue when you recruiting during MBA.

How do I know Big-Law is not for me?

I am a first year who just started a couple of months ago and I am literally confused all the time. I did some small work for two partners and they loved it, so put me on new deals but the mid levels I am staffed with absolutely hate the work I do. One said the work I did was laughable. I felt bed because I spent over 25 hours on this. I wouldn’t be very bothered but the other Associates in my class are killing it. So I just feel dumb all the time.

Hi all,
I’m currently working for a small technical consulting start-up firm. I make good money, have great benefits, and they seem very happy with the work I’m doing, so I know I could move up quickly. However, tech consulting is definitely not my dream job. I want to get into data analytics, and I have an offer from a big company to do just that. I’ve only been at my current company for about 8 months, but I don’t ever see myself loving this job. How do I know when it’s time to make a change?
