Work at my firm has slowed down a lot and I'm wondering whether I should make a lateral move. How often are there junior/mid-level tax associate openings at firms like Skadden and Davis Polk?
How much more, if at all, do Cravath / Wachtell attorneys work than S&C, Skadden, Davis Polk etc.
So glad we are not moving to Hudson Yards. Enjoy the open floor plan, Skadden associates!
Pfizer is 80% effective after the first dose and 90% effective after the second dose, according to a new real world study. Most ill effects are from the second shot. So I’d prefer not to take the second shot. Am I wrong?
Does anyone have any insight re: FordHarrison? Est. Salary for a second year, culture, billable expectations? (This is a repost, sorry).
This might be a dumb question so pls excuse my ignorance but do non-equity partners get bonuses? Is that a thing?
I was laid off from a resource management role, working with employees approaching or on the bench, working with managers to staff projects, and support functions like report creation, scheduling, etc. Roles like this are few and many large consulting firms have frozen internal hiring. Do you think it would be beneficial to get a SHRM cert? Would that help get a "talent related" HR role? Worth the money? I have a background in recruitment as well.
Does anyone have any study tips or can suggest a helpful study tool for the HRCI SPHR exam? I used BenchPrepHR to help me prep and took a few practice test. I took my exam last week and unfortunately did not pass. Any tips would be helpful to help me prepare to retake in a few months.
How do I get these car warranty calls to stop? Change my number I've had for 20 years??? What has worked for you? I've added myself to Do Not Call, etc.
What is the minimum acceptable amount of billable hours per day/week at your firm? What is the target amount?
Has anyone taken the PHR exam lately? What was the best test prep IYO? Online on demand , online live classes? Are the practice exams worth the cost?
Do you use a second monitor for your laptop? If so, which brand do you use? I have sidetrack and it’s a hit or miss when it will work.
I am a first year associate in Biglaw. I have been put on an improvement plan to increase my billable hours. My supervisors have commented that have not been getting work because I need to improve my efficiency. I am willing to do what it takes to improve but wonder how to improve my hours when no one seems willing to give me a second chance.
Anyone have any insight into white & case’s Palo alto office? Had a recruiter call me about it. I’m at another Am10 firm. Hours/culture, etc. 5th year m&a. Thanks
Hoping to get my PHR in the next year or so. Outside of employer reimbursement, are there other opportunities for this to get funded? I know SHRM Foundation offers scholarships for the CP, but I am looking for PHR specific help. Thank you! :)
Is this normal? At an AMLaw 100 and it seems like the staff rule the office. Legal assistants and paralegals push back often and negotiate the “ask” of a task. When I started I advocated for what I needed quite a bit. Well almost 3 years later and I feel like they’ve won: I’ve stopped advocating but I’m exhausted. I really feel like I can’t practice like this and feel like this alone warrants a search for a different firm. Am I being irrational in leaving for this reason? Ugh
How much nonbillable time is too much? I’m a second associate at a midsized firm and I have 30-50 non billable hours each month. An associate at another firm told me this was really high. Thoughts?
Does anyone think follow ups with doctors are sometimes scammy? I recently got pretty sick saw 3 different doctors each refered me to the next finally the last one decided I needed emgrecy surgery and took care of me. The thing is each doctor wants me to come back and have a follow up with them and I'm like no.
Anyone have experience between choosing between an Industry position or making the final push (manager/SM level) for partner? How did you finally decide to go one way or the other and do you have any regrets? I think I want to try someone new but am having a bit of paralysis in making the move knowing the income/ partner lifestyle that I could be passing up… Open to any thoughts and advice.
What an irony, on world mental health day or whatever I’m sitting at work and trying to control my tears. How is it that everybody is so happy and I’m a total mess
Someone form PwC answer this - my roommate working for the cyber security group on the west coast is almost always worried about getting fired. 9mths with ur firm and no project. Is it usual??
What kind of base salary can a senior manager (career level 6) based in NYC expect doing Technology consulting with Salesforce delivery projects? For those outside of Accenture, if you are familiar with our career system, how much would similar “senior managers” make at your consulting firm if they live in NYC or other tier 1 city also doing Salesforce delivery? Thanks.
Hubs is starting to interview for senior legal roles. Hasn’t had a haircut during covid, and it’s curly and fantastic. Looks awesome. Does he need to cut it to appear “professional?” (He was laid off in April, so we’re getting anxious)

There will always be someone making more than you or less than you. At a younger age or older age. So go at your own pace, life isn't a sprint. Salary/comp included.
My new employer is ready to file gc (eb2) for me based on approved i-140 I have from previous employer. I know that we have to file for lca etc. again and given last year’s uscis visa bulletin when eb3 dates moved ahead of eb2 I am wondering if I should tell them to wait until September/October when new bulletin comes to adjust the category eb2 vs eb3 then? Does Lca depends on eb2/3 category or is it independent? Will it be a mistake on my part to wait for bulletin if lca has nothing to do ebs?
D-Day? Finest hour? I’m sure we’re all hearing these ridiculous references on the news to the fight on Covid and the vaccines. Sounds sacrilegious to me. This isn’t the greatest generation by a long shot. This is the generation of whom many flouted medical guidelines, put others at risk for selfish reasons. Whined about work from home. Recklessly traveled in droves over Thanksgiving. Sorry, but just an observation about the hubris that brought out the worst in too many people.
These new reality tv shows on Netflix all feel like the book The Running Man by Stephen king and it kinda makes me sick
Any CFAs here? I am planning to start CFA prep in a couple of months. I have a B.Tech in Electrical and currently working as ERP Consultant (2+ yoe). I just want to get into Finance - is it worth investing time and money in CFA? Or are there any alternatives?
If a company asks you if you're interested in applying (which you are but you don't want to leave your current team hanging with a project mid-development) is it okay to say you're interested... but
Deloitte people - I am enrolling in benefits and am super confused about how prescription drugs are covered before you meet the deductible for the HDHP plans. For folks enrolled in those plans, are you paying a ton of money for prescriptions until you hit the annual deductible?
