Freelancing since 4 years! few things that a freelance designer can do differently:
Be more flexible and adaptable: Freelance designers need to be able to adapt their research process to suit the specific needs and budget of each project. They may have to be more flexible with the methods they use and the resources they have available.
Be more resourceful: Freelance designers often have to be more resourceful in finding study participants and conducting research. They may have to rely on online platforms and social media to recruit participants, or use online surveys and remote testing tools to gather data.
Be more cost-effective: Freelance designers often have a limited budget, so they need to be more cost-effective with their research process. They may have to find ways to conduct research more efficiently, such as using remote testing tools and online surveys, which can be less expensive than traditional methods.
Be more autonomous: Freelance designers are often working alone and need to be able to manage the research process from start to finish, from recruiting participants to analyzing data and communicating findings.
Be more creative: Freelance designers often have to think outside the box and come up with new and creative ways to conduct research,
Chat GPT? If so, not helpful.
Depends on the type of person you are looking for, but there are some inexpensive panel options for recruits with few quotas. Respondent.io can be good- just make sure you nail your screener and do some vetting of the candidates beyond that.
As for the testing itself- approach depends on the state of the thing being tested and your questions. Unmoderated studies are cheaper (incentive wise) than moderated ones but they are not a fit for everything.
