How are you supposed to take a vaca overseas then? Need at least two weeks for anything meaningful.

Unlimited PTO is a scam so companies don’t have to pay you for unused vacation days when they lay you off.
Your agency is also now saying you can’t use them consecutively past 5 days which is MAJOR BS and borderline fraud.
Please name and shame so I can avoid working there.

Thanks for the heads-up
Unlimited PTO is the open office plan of benefits.

Sounds not good.

Usually you can take 2 weeks in a row without issue.

Well take 5 days then weekend than other 5 days. Is jot consecutive because you are not taking the weekend out.

Get a load of fancy legal pants over here.

That would be Limited PTO. BTW, unlimited PTO is a scam, it’s a financial liability dodge not an employee benefit.
We need permission to take more than 2 weeks but I’ve never heard them say no.
Is this FIG?
My company gave 24 days PTO before unlimited so I now as a rule take at least 25 days/year (5 full weeks) to feel like I’m benefiting.
Take 5 days, say you got Covid and then enjoy another 5 days!
Um….nope. That’s total bs
That’s not okay. Occasionally you need a two week vacation
I detest the “unlimited PTO” game. Don’t see how it can possibly work other than by shaming people not to really take true time off. I’d rather have 15 days I can rely on than “infinite” days that mean nothing.
WTF?!

Thank you everyone! This sounded off to me too but I didn't want to assume in case this was becoming an industry norm i wasnt aware of.
I used to have 5 weeks (negotiated) at my prior place and they were very aware and comfortable that I'd use at least 2 together to go overseas.
The comment that we 'get' the weekends just added more frustration to the rule. There are other red flags given the hours I and others are pulling (not tied to a specific pitch or presentation) and the amount of times I've heard the top leaders give accolades to this team or that person for constantly working into the night/weekend/really bringing 'it'. There's also an unspoken feeling (and some guilt placed) that your plans outside of normal or normal-late hours (even special plans like seeing an elderly family member who is visiting) should be dropped at a moments notice if the agency asks. I'm all for working hard, but this feels really different.

That isn’t “different.” That’s borderline abusive.
Then that’s not unlimited PTO
Even with limited PTO I took off 2 weeks
My current place and new job I start in a week both have unlimited PTO, but anything over 2 weeks needs approval.
There’s places with normal PTO that don’t restrict. Damn, some people use all 15-20 days in a row at my company.
