Do it. You only live once. Money doesn’t follow you to the grave. Might as well die happy knowing you lived life the way you wanted to.
I'm in T&E, but if there was an easy side step for me to do that I would do it in a heartbeat.
I went from a firm to a Compliance Counsel role, but it paid around $250k. I did that for two years and then went back to practicing as a Product Counsel in the same industry.
You are really digging deep there. Like I said, I have 2 years of compliance and 4 years doing healthcare M&A, now I’m a Product Counsel with a path to GC. I can tell now that you really don’t know what you’re talking about and must be relatively junior and only exposed to big law culture. There’s a wide world out there in the legal field, many opportunities as good or better than “top roles”. Especially if you care about having a family and being a good spouse/parent.

How fun! I wish you much success with the music project. I have similar music goals, so please feel free to message if you’d like to brainstorm alternative careers.
no F500 is truely 9 to 5, but you can work as in house counsel at a F500 and work close to 40 hrs a week while making more money. why quit law
If you are like me and are extremely bored of law with any semblance of creativity or hobbies, you might find compliance worse than watching paint dry. It's the absolute bottom of the barrel work in any company, other than secretarial work.
Some compliance roles can be limiting, especially if they’re really removed from the practice of law. It can be difficult in those situations to go back to practicing law and could hurt exit options.
In the role I did I had no issues though - had tons of interviews and offers and it made me more competitive if anything. But I was in a Counsel role advising the company and compliance department on the law/regulations rather than being a compliance analyst or officer doing the day to day compliance work.
