I did this in 2014 and found my way into another career entirely for 6 years. Eventually came back because the grass wasn’t all that greener. But I wouldn’t change the decision. You’ll be fine! Your life is short, take a month off and just relax. The economy is gonna be fine, you’ll get something.
I took a one year break and it was glorious. You could set up your own LLC with the intention of working on gigs. If something comes up great you work if not fine too and on your resume you can say you went out on your own but you didn’t like it
if you think software is expensive, i think you are buying more than you need
I did this back in 2019. I turned in my 4 weeks notice right before Thanksgiving. I was freaking out inside and my mother was screaming in my ears for being reckless. I was lucky that I got a job offer one day before Christmas eve, which was also my last day. I had a 2 weeks gap because my new job started on Jan 2.
F-You money is the BEST!! I also have walked away before. There are some good temp companies. Beech Valley I think is one.
You’re brave. I’ve been fantasizing about this but I’m afraid of being jobless for too long. I have a big nest egg but I really want to retire early.
Doing the same thing and can't be more excited and scared 💩less at the same time.
I literally did this a couple months ago. Best decision of my life. 😆 about to start a new job soon, but haven't seriously been looking for jobs until like 2 months ago

Done it several times. PA will always take you back, specially at the higher level that you’re in. Think about why you left- you left for a reason. Then enjoy the days not having to wake up the next morning dreading about what you have on your plate. It’s been the best times of my adulthood!
I quit after 15 years with no job lined up. 3 months later we moved across the country for a once in a lifetime job opportunity. 1000% better off! It changed my whole outlook on taking risks. My spouse is quitting his job this year to follow his entrepreneurial dreams. Scared 💩less again, but also excited.
Did this at the beginning of the year! Was not going to settle for just anything. Got a better job 5 months later, I love it! Best decision I ever made.
Good luck. Courageous act.
Start looking asap
What made you quit like that?
Rising Star
Take at least a month off before you start looking.
What was the straw that broke the camel’s back that you quit without another lined up? WLB?
I feel you! I left my job of 8 years in September and I'm not going to lie, it's been hard on me mentally. I hadn't realized how much of my confidence came from my work. Can I ask why you left? Are you taking some time downtime?
I left because I was sick of the BS and even though my team was understaffed I was constantly worried about my job. I saw fellow senior managers/directors dropping like crazy in recent layoffs and even the partner I worked for was running scared which in turn meant him making my life miserable through not allowing PTO, micromanaging, pushing me to spend every minute of free time doing BD, etc. Just wasn’t a good situation and it was time to go before things get worse.
It’s been rough but I got a better job already though so I’m feeling good about it all despite the uncertainty of leaving without a job lined up.
You have a lot of experience no worries, you will be fine!
I feel you, dude. I left mine almost a year ago. I insanely invested so $ not a problem. Still. I hope to return to work in the future
Enjoy your time off! You deserve it. You can use that time to relax and reevaluate what you want to do next.
I’ve never done this but I I’m not fully invested either. I commend you & hope to be able to do this soon. The younger boss whose is taking over the business does not have a good temperament & is quick to get angry. I wish I could do this I’ve been there going on 9 years. I think you will be okay & I’m sure something will come up for you that you enjoy. So don’t worry. Good luck & keep me posted. I’m a project coordinator they say however I’m a bookkeeper for 6 different apartments & have 22 bank books to balance every month plus get everything ready for them at the end of the year for the CPA Plus pay bills taxes employees & ext.
Thanks, I appreciate it! I got a better job in less than a week lol so all is good.
