Salary bands

I have received a 3 every year since I started three years ago and my raise has been an average of 8% between the three years. Many of my friends have received 4s and 5s and have received higher raises than me when they moved from 3 to the higher rating but then they are back to 8% average going from 4 to 4 each year or 5 to 5. Next year if I get a 4/5 I will be paid the same as someone who has been a 5 every year since they started. This is insane to me. I know someone who went from a 5 to a 3 and got a 5% raise. I was a 3 and got a 9% raise at the same level. How does any of this make sense?

like

Completely agree, after I got 5% raise during promotion to manager rated as strong 4 (all reviews were 5) but then next year was rated 3 and got 10% raise. I stopped caring about ratings.

like

Focus on $ and not %. Because of the salary bands, if you're high in the band in a promotion year your raise % will look small because you need a smaller push to get into the next band. They're not going to give you a huge raise and push you into the middle of the next band as a first year at that level.

What is the salary band for a staff 2?

like

It's all about the salary bands. I have a friend who is a SM who gets about 2% raises each year even though he is a 5 because he is at the top of the SM band. Last year I was a 5 and got a 4% raise because I am near the top of the band. This year, as a 4, I will probably get 3% at best.

like

Exactly M2. I don't mind getting lower raise percentages because I am stuck at the top of my band. It means I've been earning more $$$ for longer.

Getting a higher rating at ey basically gives you a bonus that is paid over the next year. There is also the pbb bonus which is a little better if you are higher rated.

Also keep in mind time value of money. Even if earnings even out over a 3-5 year period, the person who has increased earnings early on will be better off due to compounding.

Anyone know what is the band limit for SMs? Does it depend on CoL in your region? I'm in southeast region.

Salary increase may not averaged in the practice

Bands are rank based, location based, and sub service line / SMU based. There are so many it's ridiculous, hence the reason pay gets all out if whack.
