Recently, my entire team was laid off, and only one other product designer and I remain. I unexpectedly became this person’s manager, and this is my first time in a managerial role. We are now approaching the next performance review cycle, and my direct report wants to be promoted. Any tips on how I can make this process as successful as possible?
