Hello Gang, I’m on the business side for Walmart right now. Walmart Global Tech recently offered me a role to move to the San Bruno office, but I’d be taking a demotion from L6 to E5. YOE: 8, COMP(200k base, 25% bonus, 100k RSU). Is this competitive in the bay? I have Doordash and Instacart in the pipeline, but no final offers yet.

@DD, you're getting the rant simply because of all the whining about comp this week. Why does every BTA and C think they're worth so much damn money? 90k isn't good enough? Jesus. Save yourself the effort because you're not getting the adjustment. Advanced degree or not, do you have more than three years of WE (coops and internships don't count)? Do you do something that is so specialized we can't get it anywhere else? Are your delivery skills so awesome we will skip SC, M, SM and make you MD immediately? The war for talent isn't there. There are layoffs, hiring freezes, reduced/zero campus recruiting, soft pipelines, and you're asking for more money? If I was your counselor, PPD, or Comp reviewer, I'd try not to laugh as you made the request.
I guess 90k for first year C is ok, ask them to make it better next year ?
@d7 - tech is having layoffs and plenty of digital talent on the bench. It is lumpy, I'm sure, as there's a wide band of what is assigned to digital. Either way, we seem to forget that 90k is a lot of money for what we do. Does industry pay more? Sometimes, but not always. Do the work perks - 4-6 weeks vacation, bench time, pension, 402(k), life in expense account, etc - exist industry? Sometimes, but usually not at once. Ppl need to take a step back and have an honest assessment of themselves and the picture around them. And they/we need to sound a f&@k of a lot less entitled. If I acted like half of what I read on this, I'd hate me, too.

As a boss told me one time, maybe you should've negotiated harder before you started. Unfortunately, degrees or not, you're now in the Comp review structure that has you mapped against others within the D and competitors. The degrees were the entry point, but are no longer the differentiator. There was a WSJ article this week about companies moving away from base and moving to larger variable comp models.
You will not get an adjustment.

In my experience the math is simple. impactful skills+demand = pay. Work on skills and demand, and money will follow. Otherwise, focus and energy may shift from what's important(had to learn that the hard way). Find someone who appreciates what you have and life will be set. And it doesn't hurt to make the case if you believe more is warranted. Quantifying your past impact should help.
I can see where you're coming from but you're fine lol. I turned down a $115k industry job offer as a 1st year C with 5 years WE to make $91K now as a 2C, 2 Masters.

@D1: Depending on OP's skill-set in the digital space, the war for talent is pretty real. I don't know that Big4 softness is reflected across the tech landscape.
