Recruiter recommendations for Chicago? I’m looking to relocate.

Class of 22 corporate (M&A, governance, commercial contract etc.) open to firms but think I’m ready to go in house. TIA

Unfortunately, recruiters don't help you go in-house in the same way that they help you lateral to a different firm--recruiters who do in-house recruiting have a totally different business model and you don't just connect with one and then they find you in-house jobs. Generally, an in-house recruiter reaches out to you when (and only when) you fit the profile of what a company is looking for...but that company first needs to engage the in-house recruiter (generally on an exclusive basis) to go out and spend time to find those candidates that match what the company wants. Recruiters cannot shop you around to in-house jobs and it is not to an in-house recruiter's benefit to spend time connecting with you on the off chance that at some point in the future you happen to be a match for a very specific job they get to fill in the sometime future. In-house recruiters spend most of their time trying to secure the jobs to fill and then identifying the candidate pool that matches the very specific requirements of the job they have to fill. Candidly, companies are generally not paying in-house recruiters to find people who are in law firms (if a company wants someone from a law firm they will just get someone seconded from outside counsel as a trial to hire on a permanent basis). Companies don't pay the recruiter fee unless it is a hard-to-find profile or executive level hire.

Your best bet to find an in-house job is to spend lots of time on LinkedIn searching and networking (reach out to people in your network who are hiring or have the job you want), and if you want to be findable by in-house recruiters you need to have a well developed LinkedIn bio that has a lot of detail. In-house recruiters generally use LinkedIn Pro to find candidates while law firm recruiters use a (very expensive) tool called Leopard Solutions that makes law firm bios filterable/searchable.

Transactional associate. Lateraled 6 months ago and one of the biggest pain points has been my new firm’s inclination to “hop on a call”, which of course requires every single stakeholder to join. The end result being every call has 25 people on it and nothing actually gets done because no one wants to ask a question that could come off as silly. It’s destroying my ability to get anything done during the day. It’s a complete performance and it drives me nuts.
