Recruiter said I was a “top candidate” and then never followed up again. No feedback, no rejection, nothing. Why say that at all? Would you send one last email or just let it go?

I have had that happen SO many times. I sometimes think they say it because it is true at the time but then they continue to do interviews and maybe find someone better. However, I could be wrong. Either way its not fair to candidates to just ghost.

Was this an internal or external recruiter? An internal recruiter shouldn’t be saying that, while an external recruiter wants to encourage you to stop interviewing elsewhere from fear of you finding a job without them.

I’d reach out if its been more than a week. You have nothing to lose.

smart

I would be sending a follow-up email in that position. Doesn’t hurt anything and will let you know where you stand. I take all of the ‘top candidate’ and general positivity with a grain of salt. Even if they do mean it at the time, no telling who else they are talking to.

Thoughts: Managers and senior managers should intervene when project folks starts working more than 8 hours. It's sad that initially everybody talks about 8 hours work goal but employee forced or end up working more than 10 hours. Company is not asking you to work more than 8 hours, it's the pressure from peers and seniors and managers who do "a gentle request" to finish a task asap.
Also managers, Please teach new techies to hold the horses and not put there peer in pressure.

It's now been 3 weeks since the interview and I still haven't heard back from the team other than the odd HR email saying they are following up with them. Is there something going on internally, I.e hiring freeze in the London office atm?

I was planning on not handing my notice in until the checks had been completed so its all secured (not that I think I will fail any checks), but apparently I need a reference from my current employer not previous ones. Can't really do this without handing in notice can I?
