Seeing a lot about compensation increases. I’m feeling incredibly frustrated. Just an Associate, but I feel as though I’ve got my finger on the pulse of one of many ongoing issues - Engine B.

Can someone articulate why we spent $500M on Engine B? My understanding is that it’s geared towards improving TB imports. The 0900s take < 1 hour for any reasonably competent staff. What’s the point?

My office has effectively given up on Engine B. We outright don’t use it. What a waste.

Anyone have slow months where you burn through a lot of your allotted pro bono/professional development hours to keep hitting minimum daily hours? The past few weeks have been like this for me. Should I be concerned (I.e., will this reflect poorly on me, come review time? Will I have dug myself too much of a hole if I keep burning my non-billable hours?) I’ve been asking partners if I can assist in any projects so I can fill my plate, but I’ve only gotten small (4-6 hour) tasks handed my way.

How often and how do you exercise?

I run 4x4 intervals on a treadmill every 2-3 days, and pushups/hangups/crunches about the same, but somewhat more infrequently. Great exercises to do with little time. In winter I go XC skiing upstate at our cabin every two weekends or so.

We have such an accelerated close deadline at the publicly traded company I’m at now, I really hate the inflexible tight deadlines and analysis seems to drag on forever after that. We also close AP/AR very early in the month yet that doesn’t stop payments/receipts from happening so we’re constantly adjusting our accruals until the end of month. Do private companies start their close after the month actually ends?
