At what age did you buy your first house?
Newbie to investing and never invested in a company that went through a reverse stock split.
In theory, I understand the market value should increase but I’m not seeing this reflected in the price and naturally my book value/ share is very disappointing.
A) When should I anticipate the stock appreciation to occur?
B) What’s the next move for companies that do this? Issue more shares?
TIA!

Yes. I failed several accounting classes, almost dropped out of school, and considered ending my life. In my first job post grad, I made $12/hr part time in a super shady company.
I’ve come a long way.

You earned it :). The high water mark for passing is there for a reason.
Yep. Absolutely. I’m a street kid from Brooklyn. Now a senior partner. Would have never imagined this.
Same here... my starting salary was twice what my single mother made and now a partner.
No. We’re in public accounting.
I work at a Fund. Hit some valuation stuff too. The biggest lie they told me when I was leaving was that I would stop learning. I left as a Manager too so I for sure soaked up what I could from public
I am a “dreamer” before the term was even in existence. I have reached the pinnacle of the PA profession and it feels good. My parents each worked 14 hour days while I was growing up so I could make it this far. First to graduate high school, first to graduate college. America is the land of opportunity.
Are you a partner?

Reading the replies is so fulfilling. I’m 25, senior 2 making more than my parents ever will and I live in a major city. All my coworkers and friends have well off parents and had their school paid for, car paid for, were given down payments for homes/condos, etc. I’ve supported myself since I was 18 and started out with $0 in savings... now I’m looking at buying a house next year, with NO help from anyone. Sometimes I feel like I’m behind of my peers, but this post is a reminder that I’ve accomplished so much and should be proud of where I’m at
I feel ya. Thought I was behind on buying a house in LA then realized my friends all had parents cover a healthy chunk of it.
Absolutely. Born and raised on a small farm. First to go to college, first to leave my town. I’m only an associate but I’m already doing way more than I thought possible. I just hope my head doesn’t end up in the clouds. I want to be proud but humble.

You're doing it. Keep at it.
Yes. My long term goal was to make $100k by 30. At 29 I somehow landed $155k 🤷🏼♀️
@D2 - I had this same dream as a young teenager and remember telling my parents. I didn’t even know I wanted to study accounting or what public accounting was. Made manager at 28 and broke $100k that year. I’m in MCOL area.
I make 97k as a senior. I’m happy. And I pawn all my work off to staff.
I feel attacked. ..
I just became a second year staff in Oct. and I've been delegated doing walkthrough interviews solo for 15 SCOTs.
Yup. First in my fam to go to college. I thought the “dream” growing up was to get a job at a nice doctors office as a receptionist (like the kind with the fish tanks in the waiting room) and be killing it at $10/hour. Now I make roughly $70/hour and can afford to buy clothes at places other than Kmart and my mind is continuously blown. Took me a while to find my career path after college and seems like all my colleagues are children of lawyers or CPAs who had a much more direct path. Wish I had a mentor or someone to guide me who understood where I was coming from.

Good for you k3. From my own experience a lot of partners have similar story yo yours. A lot came from very modest background, even underprivileged. Try to get to know them more and you might find someone who's story sounds appealing to you.
Yes.
Yes and no. First-gen student, child of Central American immigrants. Definitely see the amazing opportunities and doors that I’ve been blessed with, but I still see that in the economic community text of Corp America I work quite a bit for not that much. Obviously that’s all relative, and it’s a lot from the background I come from, but it also makes me consider what else I’m not even thinking of currently that could land me in a better spot, just like years ago when I didn’t think this was possible
No. I grew up in the electoral district with the highest median family income. All my friends at home make 2-3x my salary.
Physical labor making 3x more than public accounting??!? Why would a job that takes no skill pay so much?

Yes and No.
I’m the first person in my family to go to college, within 4 years I am making more then either of my parents but I have over $120k of student loan debt that I’m not making any progress on paying down. I’ll need student loan forgiveness or to file for bankruptcy once it’s allowed.
Overall - I wish I stayed in my “class” and didn’t go to college.

I did public instate at the flagship university in my state a few years ago. Tuition and fees for in-state in the business college at the university is about $22k/year. Since it’s a public school during a recession, I got very little aid I received that I applied for. Probably about $2k a year in the early 2010s?
Add in the required 5th year Masters to get to 150 credit hours to sit for the CPA... there you go.
Yes. I have had the opportunity to travel to a number of countries and live abroad for 2 years, and I hope to make partner in the next few years. My parents don’t have 4 year degrees and we grew up modestly, but I think that helped make me who I am. I feel very blessed to be where I am and even though the job is hard, I want to make myself and my family proud.
I would say to keep going for your dreams. There are so many opportunities in public accounting to build your own career - go get it!!
Love this post. 💛
Lol stfu.
So awesome to see everyone’s different prospective. Really got me appreciate for what is what we do/make. I’ve been frustrated the past few weeks, but it’s good to sit back and realize it could be a lot worse.
ABSOLUTELY... Came to this country at the age of 9, shared a one bedroom apartment with my Dad and his friend, because he couldn’t afford it on his own and slept on a sofa bed with my dad or on a sofa in general throughout my younger years. Wore the same clothes almost everyday in HS because I felt bad asking my dad to buy me anything. Ended up dropping out, and going to community college many years later - upon completion transferred to a four year and Aced every class, because I knew this is what it’ll take to “make it out”. Now, I have everything I would have never imagined. My own family can’t even imagine it.

I was nearly 24 when I went back to college. I never really thought I'd graduate. I had failed out of school twice and was making like 35k doing really dangerous construction in the midwest.
I somehow graduated at 26 after turning my jumble of random credits into an accounting degree and 150 total. I started at RSM a week after graduation.....and while I've had a million ups and downs I make more than twice what I ever did at construction in a very LCOL area.
I was early promoted to supervisor and for the first time in my life I feel close to reasonably compensated....I'm challenged every single day. I hate my fucking job a lot of days, but man this is already more than anything I thought myself capable of.
Yes. Lived in a single parent home on welfare. Neither partner graduated high school. People would drop off boxes of food at holidays. I never thought I would get out of fast food.
Never thought I’d make it to 18 the way I use to live. I feel you for real for real.
