Seeking input on this scenario. I recently resumed at a new organization in January and the pay on my offer letter was $90K. However after receiving 3 paychecks, I’ve noticed that the gross amount for 80hrs of work when projected to 2080hrs/year amounts to a little under $90K (short by about $289 for the year). I wonder if I’m missing something or if this is common where payment calculations might be off in error?

Is the organization in the public sector, or private?
Some organizations calculate based on a 2087-hour work year, while others use 2080.

like

FI1, it’s more common with govt organizations to use that number due to a Gen Acctg Office study done back in 1981 that averaged the number of work days/hours in a 28-year period and came out to about 2087.14 hours.

In private sector, 2080 is the standard as far as I’m aware, but similar to other policies, some places just follow suit based on “tried & true” practices of govt. I guess it’s just down to executive discretion!

How odd. I’ve never heard of it. Now, I’m going to go calculate mine.

Right?! I had never heard of this too and I’ve worked with a few different organizations. I guess we live and learn!

Can I buy 2 houses , one in a district with school ratings 4/10 and another house with school district 9/10? And then send kid to school which is 9/10 .

Currently don’t have kids. But would have them soon enough to send them to school after 5 years.

Is it legally allowed to have two residences in same area but different zip codes and choose better school for the kid ?

Is negotiating offers the norm now? I’ve been at my company awhile and at the time I was hired they said they don’t do negotiations, take it or leave it and they’d offer the next person. I do believe we renegotiate now, however I’m not sure if it’s the rule, the exception, or somewhere in the middle?

Clawback clause in current contract: been in role for over 2 yrs, it was an internal move that required relocation. Relocation was approved shortly after (over 2 yrs ago) but covid meant the actual move and start of my contract with new subsidiary was delayed, I was paid by the previous subsidiary meanwhile. I got small relocation package. Would internal move be subject to a buy-out/clawback clause if I leave now and if yes, is it time in role or time under new contract? Any experience? Thanks!

I received a job offer from company A and am currently negotiating salary. I have an interview with company B next week and know that they offer a higher base pay. There’s no guarantee that I will be offered a job at company B but my gut is telling me that company B would be a better fit for me. Should I accept the offer from company A, continue interview process with company B and then rescind my offer with company A if company B offers me a job? Will I be burning bridges?

I was approached on LinkedIn for an early career recruiting role in DFW, TX. I don't have direct experience, but I have the university experience/connections from working in career services. This is the first time I've considered work outside of higher education. I said my salary expectations are minimum $90k and that didn't seem to be an issue. Am I asking too little, too much? How can I know I'm getting the best salary and not just settling at the low end of the range?
