I put the kind of work I want to do in my book. So no.
I don't. If you're not sure I can make banner ads I'm not sure I want to work for you...
Are you having trouble filling your book with good work? If that's the case I would recommend adding some personal projects that reflect your skill set and thinking. CD's see ads in everybodys books, it's what we all do bc it's our job, and personal projects that showcase your creativity isn't only a breath of fresh air but also shows your creative outside the office.
Not mine, but stuff like this https://jeffgreenspan.com/traps/
Right now there is still a caste system that serves people who have been allowed to do broadcast at big agencies. Even if they are only being hired to do banner ads and social memes. It protects an oligopoly of people with titles and nice salaries. After this collapses people may only want to see if you can do what they're hiring you to do. For now just show tv campaigns...
I try not to, but there are lazy recuriters out there who need samples because either them or the client is that unimaginably dense.
I'm not freelancing so that's obviously different from my case
But why not have all that stuff on a non public part of your site so you can send them links if they have specific thing they want to see?
@OP - because droga5 realizes that not every project can be a PR worthy stunt, they need to prove they can do lower funnel work. it’s hilarious.
For freelance, the more diverse, range and depth your book has, the more marketable you are in solving freelance needs and make steady income...cast a wide net. I have hidden links to the work I don’t favor as much like collateral to send for specific jobs or if requested. And I learned to mention, ‘if there’s something you’re looking for that you don’t see on my site, ask me and I’ll share it if I have it. Depending on where you are in career, if you’re older you want to convey that you’ve kept up w/new media (digital) and that may be social posts, emails, and banners because clients want them. If you’re staff at a large agency then I think there’s more opportunities to have broadcast and high profile campaigns, and show less for another perm position.
^ Same
Ok another serious question then, are you guys finding any gigs? 🤦🤦🤦
I did when I was first starting out moving from in-house to agency work; but I’ve completely ditched all of that now. What actually got me my current job was a personal project.
👍 for personal projects
Haven't been looking for a new gig for a while, but last time it was pretty easy. But it was through a connection which always makes things easier.
It seems my problem is not the creativity part, like, I got that bit covered, it's the recruiters that are like - you don't have enough social / beauty /health / fashion / pitch deck designs / banners, so I can't find any freelance! I'm freaking out. The well is dry.
👆 Yeah that's what I've been working on. I was just curious how the others dealt with it. I'm usually full-time.. just not now lol.
i’ll include it sometimes with the rest of a campaign, if i really like them. but never standalone.
For those mentioning you've used personal projects on your portfolios. Can you give examples for us newbies?
I’ve seen a lot of dumb personal/side projects that had the opposite of the intended effect. Don’t do one just to look more well-rounded.
You’ll be associated with whatever work you have in your book. Only put in the best pieces and work you’d want to do again.
Virtually the only thing I do at my current job is make banner ads.
