Should I leave Deloitte for a move to a new city + a mid size firm job in a litigation practice area I’m not interested in, just for the sake of gaining law firm experience? (Been at big 4 one year graduated law school in 2021) or stay at Deloitte a little longer until I find a job in an area I actually want to learn about

Wouldn’t recommend it. I made a move after law school to new city for law firm job. Mistake on both ends. If you decide your current area (tax I’m guessing since that’s the majority of us) isn’t what you want, I’d highly recommend holding out for your dream legal speciality bc changing legal specialties is very difficult after even a short amount of time. As one of my professors put it, you get “put in a box that’s very difficult to get out of.” For what it’s worth, the happiest lawyers I know are in Big 4 lol.

This was so well thought out and I really appreciate you taking the time to answer. It makes me feel better about my decision to stay. I just switched to legal business services this week but still have hopes of going to a law firm someday. But who knows what will happen - can’t predict the future!

Stay longer. No point of going to lit or a mid size firm.

Agreed, stay put.

Of course! Best of luck. Your JD will bolster your resume in no matter what you choose: it shows you’re a smart cookie and hard worker :)

What area did you switch to LBS from? If you didn’t come from tax, I would highly suggest also considering giving tax a try. Especially international or M&A tax, lots of value for attorneys in these roles and interesting consulting work. Niche salt roles as well.

I got a job as a infrastructure consultant right out of college 3 years ago and later became a solutions architect at the company I am at now. I’m finding that I’m not really in to platform engineering or cloud infrastructure and would like to pivot to software/app development. And suggestions on where I could get started on making this transition?

Our employee satisfaction survey is tied to our performance goals. Meaning, if we rate management badly, we cannot meet 10% of our goals which in turn affects our bonuses and raises. We asked HR but they didn’t do anything about it. Is this normal? Is this legal? If not, what else can we do about it?
