I bought one for one year on a new house but for $700/year with a $75 deductible and on a small house I was pretty sure that over 5 years it was pretty unlikely that I would have $3500 in repairs.
Let’s see, I think 3 of the 4 times it wasn’t used at all. The 4th time it paid for a new oven, which probably cost less than the warranty.
So in general no from a cost standpoint. You are sort of paying for piece of mind though, they does have a value.
Depends on the company
First year is worth it and was always included when I was buying my first home in 07
It really depends on what you need fixed and how good the company is with their service. I had a bunch of things break (appliance/electrical/plumbing) and some they covered and some were very difficult to get them to cover. Overall they covered more than the cost of the plan so I thought it was worth it.
A 3rd party company providing a warranty on an existing home or a new home builder providing a warranty on their new build or them offering to extend that for a fee.
General advice would be to research any company and their ethics before giving them your money. See with other customers for that specific company have to say if it’s a waste or useful. Check the employee reviews to see if the employees believe it’s a scam. They’ll be happy to let people know if it’s a valuable service or not.
