This is completely dependent on the person. Some people have fun on 25k a year while some are miserable on 2mil a year. You'll have more fun if you stop tying it to income.
Agree, my idea of fun is anything outdoorsy. A tank of gas will get you to some pretty awesome places in NorCal.
that’s plenty, even by SF standards unless fun for you entails Michelin star restaurants and bottle service at the club or whatever.
This is the intel I was looking for. Thank you SAD1
Thanks guys. But I’d argue to say It’s easy to say don’t tie it income when you have it. I get what you’re saying tho.
I have many hobbies that are fun. I’ve been broke for years. I know how to have fun broke. It’s great. But I’m more asking if I’ll still be penny pinching at that income or can I take an actual vacation somewhere and do other fun stuff reserved for people with money.
Evaluate where most of your money goes and evaluate your priorities. I lived on $28k a year my first year out of college and managed to take a few trips a year. I made sacrifices though. I lived in an undesirable neighborhood, had a 3 roommates, had an old car. As your income increases, try to keep your standard of living the same as what it used to be.
I live in SF on $80k and have a lot of disposable income. $125k is plenty. Not sure what your expectations are for roommates, but you can find a good place between $1,200 and $1,800 with roomies. Lots of rooms available now on the FB groups, especially with Corona.
SF fun is a specific kind of fun. And differs from NY or LA kinds of fun. But 125 sounds reasonable.
I'd do Marina or something.. if you can. It's glorious down there.
Not enough. Get more. It’s a pricey place.
125 is plenty especially if you've spent your life penny pinching, my friend is making like 70, living in the heart of sf with a few other people in a house for 1800/mo, still has money to travel and do whatever. Just look into rent then budget around that, no one here can tell you if 125 is enough or too little, just know that sf is a bad place to own a car and it will get broken into
If you look at the East Bay - it’s half price of SF, closer to Nature, and a helluvalot better commute to SF than San Jose.
If you don’t mind a 1 hour commute (by ferry!)- look at Vallejo (North Bay) you can BUY a HOUSE and your mortgage will be $2k or less monthly.
Oh shit that’s awesome. Would I need a car living out there?
I make $112k and live very comfortably, and by myself in a nice studio
