D1 I’m not saying I would tell them “Yeah, I’m a consultant so bring me on as one.” I’m just saying it opens the dialogue to say “I’m currently an analyst but just received word I’m being promoted to consultant. That will officially happen the last week of August, but...etc.” Just letting them know I’m not at the absolute bottom of the food chain anymore.
Got it, makes sense. Honestly if I were you I’d wait until after you get to go to consultant milestone training. Why do you want to leave anyways? Is it just that you want to live in Denver? We have offices there-you could work on a transfer.
Long story, but basically Colorado is home for me. Wife and I want to be near family, especially as kids come along. I’m federal, transferring to Denver would mean going commercial which would be better in every way, but the wife isn’t excited about me traveling 90% of the time. I need to respect that. I’ve heard great things about Slalom, and being able to work on commercial work with less travel sounds great. Appreciate the input. Not opposed to waiting until milestone training, I’m just eager to find work I enjoy.
I’m in touch with the guys out there working with geo-expansion. They know I want to get out there, but just don’t have a need for analysts/consultants yet. Appreciate the advice though. I know it’s a waiting game, but even then I’m not sure I want to be on another federal client.
Our analyst program is brand new...only a few offices have those programs. Im not sure if denver has it.
Id wait 6 months and aim to come in as a consultant
Denver has it. And I’m literally one week away from getting notified of my promotion. Pay bump won’t go through until September, but my title will change.
In that case....my advice is still the same. Stay another 6 months and them join as a full consultant.
Hey OP you aren’t a consultant until end of August/early September. Title change doesn’t happen until then and it’s fraudulent to advertise yourself at the next level if you aren’t.
@d1.....re-read ops post. He said he is UP for consultant not that he is a consultant
@Slalom I interpreted his “pay bump won’t go through until September but my title will change" as him saying that his title will change now but his pay bump won’t be effective until first week of September. I see a lot of people change their titles early and it’s just not accurate. Apologies if I made an incorrect assumption on this one.
OP, Denver is a geoexpansion location. You actually could probably work out a transfer. I have a buddy who is there as part of Federal already (has been for years actually). I always tell people that if they find work they enjoy with people they enjoy then they’ve really won. If they can find one of the Twix be satisfied Bc the other will come. Patience is your best friend (I’ve been at the firm 11 years, and have had long periods of patience which have very much paid off).
I hear you. Denver is awesome though, I’d love to live there. I’m probably biased but I wouldn’t want to work for another consulting firm and would look at industry jobs. But that’s just me and my 11 years if I bleed green talking.
