Hi guys,
Need help,I am joining VMware Banglore on 27th June. During interview I told them I need wfh. They said it wil be wfh this entire year. Only mistake I did was i didn't permanent wfh. I took for granted like once I join i can opt for it ( as my VMware friends had said we can opt for it)
Now the offices have started, I am scared if they call me to office , I have 14months son, not willing to leave him n go for office.
So if I ask manager to give me permanent wfh will they agree ?

I heard this a lot when I was just starting out. I didn’t have the benefit of internships under my belt, and all of my experience was in other industries. I realized that when people say “agency experience,” what they’re really asking for is someone who won’t balk at long hours and quick turnarounds, or difficult clients who change their minds, or juggling multiple accounts. If you can find a way to talk about or demonstrate how you can handle those specific challenges, speaking to specific experiences in your work history, that could be really helpful and show your interviewer that you understand what real agency life is like.
This is a really good piece of advice. I feel like I do this now especially when talking about the projects I have worked on. Maybe I’m not selling myself hard enough idk
Many thoughts on this.
1. What's your book look like? Varied work on different clients or mostly just 1?
2. I guess idk why they interview you to tell you to get more experience, they can see where you've been. Seems stupid to me.
3. I'm not gonna ever hold it against anyone that they don't have 5 years agency experience. Good work and breadth of work is enough. If you got some agency experience and you're young who cares.
4. Just try a small or mid size agency. They will value game over name cause they rely on a broader view when seeking talent.
Best of luck. If they're holding agency experience against you and you're young it's bonk. Keep knocking in doors, eventually one will open.
My hunch - they are not telling you the truth.
You lack experience.
Not agency experience.
If you had great experience they would hire you.
Many hiring managers and talent people are bad at giving real helpful feedback. They want you to like them. Ask real direct questions if you want real feedback.
This is honestly how I feel about the situation. I’ve been freelancing but not on big projects it’s mostly on one offs for social.
So if youve got a lot of one offslike you say they probably want to see some campaign work. Do some mock ups. See if there is someone you can partner with. I had a bunch of one offs after being an intern and a junior ( I are mostly off scraps no one else would touch as most juniors do). I built out 3 campaigns with 2 different partners and it helped immensely! More interviews pretty soon after and eventually I got a gig.
In terms of what to do campaigns for, pick something out of your medicine cabinet. If you can sell me anti itch cream, nail clippers, mouthwash or a lint roller in an interesting way, I'll be impressed. No beer, no whiskey, no condoms, no video games and no sports cars. Those things are all inheretently interesting so they don't show the level of your abilities.
I appreciate this feedback. My current book has two spec work projects and two projects of real campaigns I worked. I’m currently trying to find a copywriter I can work with to do more. I’m also debating if going to ad school is the right move for me as of right now

What level are you interviewing for and how many years of FT experience do you have?
I’m interviewing for junior positions and I don’t have FT experience In advertising due to covid
Umh freelance is agency experience but with less of a safety net. Reframe their problem and your solution.
