Hi Fishes
I would like to know about the client interviews (especially in data science or machine learning roles).
Are these interviews tough?
Are these interviews meant to assess technical knowledge? For example, what is binomial distribution, what are different data structures in python, ml algorithms etc.
I would request each of the nagarrians to share their thoughts irrespective of the technologies you are working.
I am thankful to you for taking time and helping me out.

Hey everyone, I got a call from Deloitte recruiting on Wednesday of last week discussing salary requirements and location. They told me that the team really liked me and that they were going to work on an offer. I got a call on Friday saying one group has approved the offer but they are waiting on others. I haven’t heard much since then. Should I be worried? How much longer will I have to wait?

Yes and it’s a waste of everyone’s time. I experienced this once and it was clear within 15 minutes that I didn’t want to work with the interviewer as he did not give a shit. Clearly had no interest in the project, interviewing or talking about his team. Luckily the rest of his team were great but the experience definitely made me think twice
Had this happen to me recently. The worst part is how it makes you feel shitty about yourself.
I’m generally a really good interviewer, and I was left wondering “did I do something wrong??” for days after.
It’s also just supremely disrespectful. The interviewee took time out of their day, likely went through the trouble to come up with an alibi at work, and are obviously interested in the role.
I kid came to show his book once in a day that everything wrong that could possibly happen happened. Including a horrendous thunderstorm causing a flashflood that dragged my car away. I should’ve canceled but I didn’t ever remembered at that point that I had that meeting. So the kid was there and he was showing me all his stuff And I couldn’t pay attention at all. In the middle of it I said “sorry I’m having the worst day and I have a lot of things in my head right now we can reschedule if you want and I’ll pay you a beer for the inconvenience”. He came a few weeks later. I didn’t have anything for him at the agency but I helped him landing a job.
Good interviewers won’t do this. Think about it: do you want to work with someone who’s mood affects how they interact with you professionally?
Obviously we all have lives and it’s not that black and white, but this would be a huge red flag for me
Once had an interview where the interviewer worked on her laptop the whole time. Couldn’t have been more uncomfortable. Pulled out of that hiring process as soon as I got back to my apt.
Oh ya, huge red flag for me. If the interviewer picks up the phone and starts checking emails it's game over for me. Next!
it's just human nature and part of the luck involved with getting a job.
If I’m rushing around like crazy and have to do an interview in that headspace, I’ll usually tell them up front and ask them to have patience with my scatterbrained vibe. Then they don’t have to worry that it’s personal. Bonus: it puts them at ease because they’re like “oh this is an ordinary person I’m talking to not a wall I have to impress."
Remember: they’re not just interviewing you, you’re “interviewing” them.
I recently had one where I was booked in for an hour interview. The interviewer showed up 17 min late, made it resoundingly clear she didn’t have much time as soon as she came in, then the MD came in for about 10 min, 8 of which were spent on her phone. The interview ended 15 min early. It was 🚩 central. They also dropped in that they had a “really hard time getting strategists in.” 🙄
