Looks like we need it more than ever.
Why the laughs? Don’t think it’s needed as we engage with each other?
This is completely anecdotal but I feel at least 70% of leaders I speak to privately (male, female, black, white, asian, insert your flavour of minority/majority) have felt DEI has been a failed policy for at least the last 2-3 years. We have promoted some people who 100% should not be in the chairs they are in (and some of them have subsequently been exited 2-3 years later when *shockingly* they haven’t been able to perform). And guess what? The actual qualified people we kept in the queue have either left or are not happy campers.
I’ve never understood why if you are not an identified “minority” we feel it’s 100% okay to discriminate against that group just because we “need” to promote a certain minority group in the name of DEI. And it’s super funny to see all the Partners that are already over the line virtue signal about DEI. Easy to be all for it when you got over the line 8+ years ago before DEI became in vogue.
Go back to promoting the people who are performing using the metrics that matter. It’s not perfect but whatever we’re doing now is not working.
This!
I hope so
We can only hope that this clearly racist ideology is dead. At least the D and E. I’m in favor of I, but if they’re going to combine them it all must go.
Next, kill ESG.

Jan 21 2025. Be patient. Trust Vivek.
I truly cannot wait for a true meritocracy. As a minority, immigrant with a disability who also has top tier, ivy league education, an unparalleled sales record, and a huge following for being a people first leader I’m sick and tired of people believing I got to where I am because of the former not the latter. Unfortunately, I suspect that the only change we are going to see is that instead of promoting under qualified minorities we will now promote under qualified white men. All else will remain the same
Self glorification, victimization and grifting all in one go. If anyone said "underqualified colored men" instead of the trope you wrote, they'd be reported. However, we're going to start reporting this same reverse racist nonsense instead.. Stop it, get a pair and stop whining.
Thankfully we can say Merry Christmas again 🇲🇾🦅
I don't think it's a binary.
I suspect we'll continue to see a decline in the number of "Chief Diversity / Equity Officers" as separate from CHRO/CPOs. We'll probably also see less heavy-handed internal policies at companies vs. the height of DEI investment.
More broadly though I think many aspects of DEI are here to stay. IMO effective DEI policies expand the accessible talent pool of candidates and have a halo effect on retention.
It's not like DEI suddenly "started" in 2020 either, it's all been part of a broader dynamic.
I’ve always loved the concept/goal of DEI, but a significant number of the diverse candidates I’ve hired into my team have been awful. Mixed feelings about it in reality.
Did DEI end 2016-2020? Not saying you are doing this, but there are lots of catastrophizing going on. Folks seriously over estimate “evilness of Trump” and the power of the presidency.
Really has nothing to do with the POTUS or Congress. It will be the SCOTUS. They ruled last year in the Harvard case that race cannot be used as a factor in admissions decisions, period. We're likely less than a year out from a similar decision re: private sector hiring/promotions. Net net, expanding applicant pools will be fine, anti discrimination training will be fine, setting diversity targets and tying bonuses to attainment will be very much NOT fine. The days of any of us hearing "do not put forward white male applicants for this position" (let's be real, this is widespread) will be over.
Well, programs are still needed and support for diverse employees is helpful. But it can't be a "religion" unto itself. Same with ESG, some of the fever for both is receding. Less mandates and more how can we help people have fulfilling careers and connection
I don’t think so whole stock, but think you have more employees feeling empowered to question its value, and claim meritocracy without consideration of uneven starting equity. My company bowl already has that.
The problem is that race, gender and sexual orientation are extremely low resolution indicators of “starting equity.”
If you want a true meritocracy join A&M
Or being scolded for struggling to use they/them pronoun
Sure. Why not? DEI IS OVER. Now that we have thrown out countless white, middle-aged men who were genuine and dedicated their lives and careers to our firms, only to face ageism and DEI at other firms….Let’s proclaim that DEI is over.
That's a good point. How can we make up the opportunity cost of the DEI years.
Why would it be?
The long distance courier company OW1? 🥱
Definitely not the same velocity it had the past few years. But also not dead.
People gotta remember that in the ole' red blue game... It's still pretty 50/50 for the most part each year with only slight tilts one way or another.
It's like I told my kids... If 100 people in a room had to pick sides and 51 chose one side and 48 chose another (with I guess 1 person doing their own thing)... Would you really feel like there was a "clear" majority? Not really.
There are still plenty of folks advocating for DEI initiatives. It just may take a back seat in terms of near term priorities.
The firm should strive to represent the diversity of the country. Minorities by definition are fewer in numbers but it’s not zero.
Why is representing the diversity of the country a positive thing? Or said differently, why is it assumed benefit. And if it was a benefit why does a majority of the tech companies lean left in ideology..
Finally, it can’t go fast enough.
… how long til the lawsuits start…
People who have been passed over for promotions because of their skin color or gender didn’t tick the right box
No. DEI will continue to be used to maintain the usual pattern of white male overindulgence
White Men Overindulgence is the only reason this world even exists. Race bating died on Nov 5th and it's funeral is schedule for Jan. 20th.
