So many people say they won’t take another job unless they get at least 20% increase in pay. That’s ideal of course but I’m also finding a lot of companies really aren’t offering top pay right now because they have the pick of the litter. So if you want to leave your job do you settle for less? Like 15% or some specific dollar amount? Curious what others are thinking.

I think it ultimately depends on why I'm leaving. If I'm leaving because my workplace is really toxic, I don't really care about the pay increase. But if it's about money, obviously I wouldn't want to leave for less than a reasonable amount.

I've always thought I'd want at least 25% more to make a move. That's mainly because I'm more or less content where I am, and the disruption of moving to a new organization would have to really be worthwhile. Of course, depending on the opportunity, and the new company, and other factors, I'd consider less. I think you're right about companies not being generous these days, they really have no need to be.

That is crazy. While some are leaving their jobs, I am trying to get hired, and I am not having luck on any marketing jobs. This has resulted in me taking a lower paying job that is not even related to my work experience. I had to get trained in something different, full of repetitive processes, in a dirty environment, where some days are slow and there's no growth. I also noticed that there is ageism. More and more young employees are being promoted to decision making positions without too much experience, which means experienced workers that are in their 40s or 50s are not getting hired in marketing roles anymore.

I guess these really make you think and question why you want to leave. But 15% increase with no increases at your current company for extended time would suggest money on the table being left, so the option just might make sense yet

Trying to encourage my husband into a new job because he is really underpaid. He seems content in the job but we both have concerns about the company’s stability right now. He also doesn’t want to jump ship for less than 20% increase but I think there’s more to consider with changing employers. Stability in the company, better benefits, and shorter commute, in my opinion make up for a smaller increase in base pay. A more stable company “should” also come with better compensation and performance incentives. Just my thoughts.

OP, I mostly agree with you, but sometimes it’s easier said than done. For me, personally, taking a new role at a new company is very stressful. I can completely understand why someone would stay where they are unless the financial compensation was significant.

For me I think about it as what am I gaining by moving. It doesn’t always have to be money. But I do need to gain something.

Tech company lay offs….are they soon to be inevitable?!

There is lots of companies really taking a hit in the tech space. Is this something that people are nervous about? Many seem to still be having a hiring push but with the button falling (IMO this is still just start we have a long way to go to bottom out) will that halt and layoffs ensue? And if so, which depts do you think will get hit the hardest?

Anyone have insight to what the plan is at UpStart for example?

Does anyone have suggestions for what a salary should be for a Digital Marketing Analyst | Paid Social & Performance Media? I have 1 year of experience, the job asks for 0-1 year of experience. I feel I over meet the qualifications in some areas and just meet them in others. The recruiter said 50k is the salary the company is offer. I know I can negotiate. I received a job offer from company A and am currently negotiating salary. I have an interview with company B next week and know that they offer a higher base pay. There’s no guarantee that I will be offered a job at company B but my gut is telling me that company B would be a better fit for me. Should I accept the offer from company A, continue interview process with company B and then rescind my offer with company A if company B offers me a job? Will I be burning bridges?

Got offered 68k after 2 years as a contractor (62.5k) doing project management/business admin in a tech department at a Fortune 500 bank. I have an A.S degree and working on my bachelor’s/masters may 2024. I negotiated to 84k NYC. I have seen interns get offered 38 per hour (79k) for internship positions with a similar role.

Thoughts? Should I go higher? I do my job well that’s why they decided to keep me as a contractor after my internship.

What's the best form of compensation to ask for and why?

My employers' CEO just announced that they just received $7 million from investors. He wants to use that money to offer incentives to employees that hussle and drive more revenue for the company. We're not sure what those incentives look like yet, but here are some post-announcement rumors from my co-workers:

Cash bonuses, raises, profit-sharing, company equity, 401k match, etc.

For expert witnesses/lawyers

I’m a former forensic scientist that left the field several years ago. I recently received a subpoena from a case I worked and suggested to DA to have evidence re-worked by the lab or stipulation. If I am required to testify (as an expert witness), I would need to book a flight, hotel, etc. My question is this: can I ask for my requested hourly rate, travel, and hotel to be covered when speaking with DA or is that “not how this works” as the investigator put it?

I’ve been verbally offered a position at a new company, but the recruiter insists on getting a verbal acceptance before sending the offer in writing. This person insists on negotiating salary before sending the paperwork. Generic benefits, RSUs, bonus info have been provided; it’s all unofficial.

This is absurd. Am I missing some “new way” of doing things? Your take?

What is the highest percentage increase you have negotiatied for an internal position? Wondering if all companies typically bump 5-10% for the next paygrade range or is there opportunity for 20-30% jumps.
