I keep seeing those posts here... your salary is your market value, which is not 100% correlated to your experience in years (actually it is probably closer to 0-20% range).
A person with 4 years at McKinsey from undergrad with distinctive reviews throughout is expected to earn $300-400k. That is very different from 4 years at EY audit (less), or Private Equity in NYC (more).
Put simply, one’s market value is the minimum someone with your skill would accept to do the same job. I.e., your market value is different from your value creation ability or your number of years in the workforce.
McK - can you walk me through how that 4 year progression for the higher performing McK individual would take place? $300-400 obviously sounds like a lot, but I trust since you are at McK you know something (probably a lot of things) that I don’t. Just curious how that would work
Sure.
2Y as Business Analyst (80-130k)
1Y as Senior Business Analyst / Junior Engagement Manager (150-170k)
1Y as Engagement Manager (240-260k)
In the 5th year you will make (300-400k) depending on when you make Associate Partner (mid-year or year-end)
Again, this is for someone with only distinctive reviews (<5% of folks)
