Starting to feel very stale in current partner role. Where have people exited to that wasn’t consulting, what was your exit strategy, and how long did it take?

Feel the same way. I’ve started a networking campaign with folks from my various networks to start filling the top of the funnel with ideas and I aim to start looking in earnest in Q4 once I’ve gotten a little sharper on what I want. Have had 6 great networking convos with folks in different fields and am continuing to explore what comes next. Maybe at the end I decide to stay but it’ll be the product of a rigorous process to consider staying or going.

helpful

How long have you been a partner and what do you mean by stale?

A few years now, and just feeling bored, like maybe there’s more out there.

I’ve been looking casually for 6 months, had dozens of exploratory conversations and got fairly far along in the recruiting process for 3 jobs (plus 1 last year where they ultimately decided they wanted someone with a different background). I pulled out of 1 bc comp was too low, and am continuing with the other 2, would expect to get offers by EOY if all goes well. If the one I’m most excited about doesn’t work out, I’ll kick it into high gear late this year for an all in job search.

Network but it’s a little tricky because I can’t tell my current clients or current firm that I’m leaving yet.

For folks who have recently jumped or are currently looking: Did you use exe recruiters or are you drumming up the opps organically from your network?

Exec recruiters are a waste of time - keep in mind the higher your comp the less desirable you become when you go through a recruiter that want 20-30% commission from your comp

smart

I’m pretty far down the path with another firm - not apples to apples with OPs ask to move out of consulting, but my process arose through my network rather than a recruiter, so that part is consistent with others.

I’m a PE ops VP at a larger fund. Currently making $350k cash comp with about $1M carry at work per fund. Realistically, what would I be looking at in terms of cash/carry comp increase if I were to be promoted up one level (one below partner).

Approaching 30 now and living with roommates in NYC, but considering moving to my own place. Has anyone found that living with roommates is better than living alone? Conventional wisdom says no.

I’m a pretty outgoing person and i like to have people around. I also like my roommates cause we chill. So I’m really scared of moving in alone and being lonely. Increase in rent will be marginal and totally affordable.

Interested in working in PE, but experiences align more with the Ops side (3 YOE in strategic value creation). Is there a significant difference in total comp potential between ops and investments roles? Not sure how to make a case to break into investments with minimal DD experience, so thinking about Ops recruitment (Associate). Would also be grateful to learn about potential strategies non-DD focused consultants have used to ultimately break into investment teams.
