Switched from a litigation practice to a transactional practice when I lateraled firms. I just hit my first lull in work and it’s an eerie feeling.. I’m also anxious because every hour I don’t work now may be an hour I have to make up later. Litigation is so steady and predictable. How do you (we) transactional people live like this..?

Welcome to the life! My best advice is to just enjoy the downtime and not think about the hours. When the next deal comes in, you’ll thank me.

Sorry for the off topic question, but how did you end up retooling? I’m thinking about doing the same, but I’m a midlevel/senior.

like

Also a mid-level. My practice was in an industry where the substantive skills and law port over easily. I’m happy to explain more if you want to DM me.

How many billable hours per week is considered at capacity? I’m getting pushback on boundaries I’m setting about additional matters and marketing work from my firm when I’ve been billing 60-75 hours per week for the last 6 weeks, and I’m still behind on my work. I feel like it’s reasonable to not kill myself further to fit in more/turn things around faster at this point, but am I being unreasonable? I expect my workload to remain at this level through the end of the year at least.

Has anyone else talked to a doctor about stress while trying to conceive? I’ve been having a really hard time wanting a baby for the way my husband and I have been arguing or talking to each other. I think we should go to counseling. I know I love him and I know he loves me- there’s just so much animosity so much anxiety around discussions. Do you think our anxiety or tension is because we have not been able to conceive?

I tried contacting him over calls and whatsapp but he didn't answer it as i didn't leave on good terms with him.
What is the way out? Please help

Yesterday my main partner asked me to come in Thursday bc he will be there and set a time to meet. Is this good/bad?? kind of nervous!

Completely and totally miserable at my firm and just need a space to vent because my friends are tired of hearing about it. I wish the worst part about it was the amount of work, rather than the completely toxic culture, lack of appreciation, arbitrary and back/breaking deadlines, lack of mentorship/feedback/training, and the fact that the associates act like they don’t even know each other. I cry every day and constantly am made to feel stupid for not understanding the highly technical (cont.)
