Switching team internally competing with external candidates. was asking a promotion for next grade midpoint but was ok to accept >=50% hike which i told hiring manager before the process start itself which he said will consider if I'm the one selected.

Attended 5 rounds-- 1 coding, 2 technical, 1 managerial, 1 hr. Now after 2 months telling me I'm the selected one, but offering me just 20% hike and same grade

Any chance for negotiations? Any tips or guidance are appreciated. please help

Depends on what the differential is between the 20% they’re offering you (plus the market rate of filling your old jobs vacancy) and the market rate they’d pay a new employee for the role you applied for.

You don’t know what the current market premium for your current role is. They might have to pay a 30% increase from your current salary to your replacement and then 20% to you to move. Versus 35% to an external hire for the new role you want.

I’d say take the 20%, get a year or so’s experience in the role you’re interested in. Then shop around in the market and leave for another 20-40%.

Or you can stay where you are. Up to you.

It does not typically pay to be loyal in this market anymore. Maybe if you stay at a company for 10-20 years it could pay off. But that’s a big gamble. Most people take what they can get in the market every 2-5 years.

Yes. Take the job and interview outside for better role. Its awful that an internal candidate has to go thru’ 5 rounds of torture and not give what you want.
On the other hand it seems like they may have other candidates at cheaper price point.

Also, if you believe you are more qualified you will not stop interviewing. Power to all qualified folks:)

In dev job Java, spring r etc getting better pay. Also some SAP consultant are also get paid high.
Is exp people in testing/frontend dev are less due to which they getting better pay than others with experience.

This job is a lot better if you don't care about the bonus and hours requirement. I can pretty easily bill 1700 hours annually and my firm so far hasn't cared in the slightest. Worrying about hitting 2000 hours for the bonus used stress me out so much, and I just don't think it's worth it. Base salaries are ridiculous and way more than enough to finance my lifestyle.
