Team and agency (not title) has been stressing timesheets non stop. What is this a sign of?

1Q numbers weren’t good. And there was a lot of non-billable work so they need to see who is underutilized.

From my understanding, clients pay for a given number of hours, so if the hours aren’t met, the agency has to pay back the client, and for the converse, if there’s over burn on hours, account leads need to assess if there’s work out of scope we’ve been taking on.

New to the industry? A pain, yes, but timesheets have never not been important.

The advertising industry as we knew it with higher margins and decent resourcing has been contracting since the Great Recession. It will never go back. marketing is now seem as a pure sales driver due to obsession with digital metrics.

Your agency is probably feeling a crunch and to be honest since timesheets are the record for how many holdco agencies are paid they want to make sure you are being billed accurately.

with 85% of the industry owned by holding companies, every bean is getting counted.

Anyone in Vancouver want a Programmer Analyst role doing data conversion from Oracle into WD? UBC is a great employer that pays well for Vancouver / Canada and the work is remote, though you have to be in Canada. 4 weeks vacation and benefits start on day 1

If you were still in undergrad would you prefer 1. Go back to campus and have an in person/hybrid learning experience with restrictions on social life
2. Have your school go fully remote for the entire fall semester
3. Defer for a year and resume your education fall 2021 when things will hopefully be “normal”
I think I’d choose 3 but idk. Tough call, and I feel bad for current college students

Pro-tip: When you have extra-difficult clients, change their name in your contacts. That way, when they call, you can legitimately say, "Not today, Satan."

Also works for exes.

Can someone explain how billable hours work? At a new agency and although I had to fill timesheets at my previous agencies, they were mainly used to ensure we weren’t over servicing a client/for setting the appropriate retainer for contract renewals. I asked ppl at my agency but haven’t gotten a proper explanation. I get the impression that billing to the agency admin code isn’t recommended, and my manager said he bills everything to client codes, but that doesn’t make sense to me .

How do I be a decent manager to a coworker who's upset I've been promoted twice in two years and they haven't? We started out as coworkers, became decent friends after a few good moments, but went back to simply coworkers after they flubbed a few projects and I had to step in to clean up. I'm non-confrontational but year-end reviews are right around the corner and I'm worried about having to act professional to someone who I got too close with and who now hates me.
