Can we expect a permanent wfh option?
I recently joined Allstate india and my manager is forcing me to come to office twice a week. During negotiations, I had made it clear that I didn't want to work from office due to personal commitment.
Please suggest:
1. Is my understanding correct that Allstate india is currently not forcing employees to come to office and my manager is an exception?
2. How can I say no without pissing off the manager given I have just joined the company?

I was a sophomore 9/11/2001 and our university stopped in it’s tracks all week. That was the most bizarre time I’ve ever experienced while in school. I can’t imagine being motivated enough for remote learning in college of all places. I always kicked myself for not taking a year off at some point. So i would probably go with your choice # 3.

#3.
3 if entering as a freshman; 2 if any other year of college

2. Except if I was in the early stages/gen eds of college I’d probably just enroll in online community college to save money since all school is going to be the same online.

But if you take a year off, what will you do instead? Job market isn't great and it's not like you can travel

Depends on my year. If I’m going into freshman year, I would most definitely want to defer, there is just too much on-campus excitement, new opportunities, relationships, and experiences that would be missed. Freshman year was a magical time for me. Otherwise, I would just begrudgingly trudge through.
3, but the question is “what do you do with the gap year?” Not a lot of travel opportunities at the moment. Could volunteer?
1 for sure. The opportunity cost of 3 seems too high (if a bit unpredictable) and there’s no way I would accomplish anything with 2.

I think colleges wouldn't be able to enforce social distancing/other restrictions at all - people would do everything they could to break any rules and have parties/gatherings that would result in outbreaks that would shut things down again. Not worth it to try to open up.
