The assassination of Melissa Hortman, her husband and their family dog (in addition to the attempted murder of Minnesota State Senator John Hoffman and his wife) has really shaken me. State legislators often feel more accessible than their federal counterparts for obvious reasons, and usually have close ties to their local legal communities (Hortman herself was a lawyer). Not that I wouldn’t be sad and terrified if a federal politician was assassinated. Ugh. I am so sick to my stomach.
