I think it's important to demonstrate some expertise in various areas. And keep an eye on how you can transfer those skills into a more meaningful position. I'm not sure management people really see the admin staff as strategic partners. But there is plenty of opportunity to learn things that will be useful and could help secure positions higher up the ladder.
Integrating with their teams and direct reports to understand where they need your executive time and what the team/client priorities are for each project. Then go back to your executive and share the info you received and align on where your executive wants to spend their time/priorities so you have the context to make decisions around priorities and obstacles that arise.
