The media landscape shifts constantly with new platforms, new formats, and new expectations. Thinking about when you first started vs. now, what’s changed the most in your daily work? Has it made things easier, harder, or just different?

In some ways, things are easier. Technology has made a lot of things nearly effortless, from editorial tools to photo software and so on. So that's all a plus. As for expectations, standards have fallen to where clickbait gets published on a regular basis, and we're already starting to drown in AI slop. So we've got brilliant tools and too many dumbed down people using them to produce awful work.

I completely agree, technology is so much easier now but the rise of social media definitely has its pros and cons

For me, I stopped fighting new technology and started embracing it. Things like AI used to freak me out because I felt like it was threatening my job. But now I've realized it just makes me better at my job as long as I know how to use it properly. We don't need to be afraid of emerging technology as long as we keep updated with it.

This is exactly the mindset more people need to take- instead of shying away from new technology we should be embracing and learning about it to benefit from it

I’ve been battling chronic depression for years now and have learned to recognize when I’m slipping into another depressive episode. I can feel that happening the last few days. Is the worst feeling and I feel so helpless and hopeless when it starts. Yes, I actively manage it with all off the recommended things to do, but really just wanted to unload a little here.

What’s the appropriate pay for a Video Prodcuer/ editor (for web) in London? I think I’m being underpaid. I have a BA(Hons) in Film & TV and a MA in Television Journalism. I’ve been working at the same company for 4 years and was promoted 3 years ago. I was told to ‘prove myself’ when I asked about the compensation, then the pandemic put a stop to any raises. I asked again a bit more than a year ago and they gave me a little bump because some left. I’m currently at £31k. The company keeps hiring

Greetings from Madison, Wisconsin. I'm a reporter with more than 32 years of experience and I feel that, lately, local television news has been kind of dead, but I am pleased to fight for it from my local newspaper. Locals love to see someone from their own town succeeding or finding out something inspiring.

I am a firm believer that this will not change for a long time, local TV will continue to live as long as we stand for it.

One of my direct reports has asked about going part time. They currently manage special reports in a bi-weekly publication, working closely with sales, freelance writers, and an internal designer. Job duties are primarily project management and editing/proofreading. As the first read on articles, they need to have an understanding of the material (business/regulation). Has anyone had experience with job sharing in this type of a role?

I just bought an Alexa for my grandma's birthday. Her old radio broke and she's been kind of sad because she can't listen to her favorite music anymore while cooking, so I thought this would be a good pick. She'll have her favorite music right there.

Later today my grandpa tells me she's not been asking Alexa for her favorite music, but for her radio stations instead 😭😂

Journalism is the best job in the world but I feel like people are less likely to take my work seriously because I am female. So it's like they automatically think the only things I would be good at writing about are fluffy little human interest stories. I'm just a reporter like everyone else. Is there some way I can tell my supervisor that yes, I do like those stories, but I like being a serious reporter even more?
